Rarely does a cameo in a movie end up stealing the whole show, but that is what happened in 2008 when Tom Cruise did an extended cameo in the comedy Tropic Thunder. According to Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie, Cruise has plans for a spinoff. Tom Cruise played the role of no-nonsense studio executive Les Grossman and earned universal praise and appreciation for his comic timing. In a recent interview, Christopher McQuarrie shared that he and Cruise have had multiple discussions on a Tropic Thunder spinoff focusing on Les Grossman.
McQuarrie shares plans for a spinoff
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, McQuarrie said, “The conversations we’ve had about Les Grossman are so f---ing funny. Cruise and I are talking about it. We’re having very serious conversations about it, and how best to do it.” He went on to say how Tom Cruise’s Les Grossman impression helped them both destress while they were filming Final Reckoning: “Just to be sitting at a breakfast table not talking about the movie we’re making for a minute is such decompression. And just riffing with Tom playing Les Grossman at the table, it was one of the real joys of making this movie. It was all the stuff we were doing, planning the future while slugging out the present.”
What is Tropic Thunder about?
Tropic Thunder was directed by Ben Stiller and followed a group of stuck-up actors trying to film a war movie in a tropical jungle. However, the actors’ ego clashes and the director’s inexperience soon derail the project. The movie was a critical and commercial hit, earning praise for its satire of Hollywood studio culture. For now, fans of Tropic Thunder will have to wait and see if the spinoff materialises. In the meantime, we can catch Tom Cruise in action in his final outing as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in theatres.

American Music Awards Winners 2025: Billie Eilish sweeps in all seven nominated categories

Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has sparked controversy again, this time by seemingly criticising actress Deepika Padukone for allegedly leaking plot details of his upcoming film Spirit, starring Prabhas. While he did not mention her by name, his post on X appeared to target Deepika and accused her of using PR tactics to undermine actress Triptii Dimri, who recently replaced her in the film.
What caused the issue?
The controversy erupted after a Pinkvilla article revealed new plot details about Spirit, sourced from an insider shortly after Triptii's casting was confirmed. According to the report, "While the storytelling of Spirit is that of a quintessential Telugu entertainer that has all the hero moments, the filmmaker is bringing a twist to the genre by spinning in an ‘A-Rated Action’ twist. Apart from the big-scale violent action scenes, Spirit will have some bold sequences too." “Sandeep Reddy Vanga wanted to cast an actress, who would be comfortable with the sequences written on paper. He has promised a comfortable and professional atmosphere on the sets amidst the shoot to Tripti.”
Vanga’s strong response
Vanga responded with a fiery post on X, writing: “When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There is an unsaid NDA (Non-Disclosure Agreement) between us. But by doing this, you've 'DISCLOSED' the person that you are... Putting down a younger actor and ousting my story? Is this what your feminism stands for?” He continued, “As a filmmaker, I put years of hard work behind my craft & for me, filmmaking is everything. You didn't get it. You won't get it. You will never get it.” So far Prabhas Triptii Dimri are the only confrimed cast. Spirit is being co-produced by T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures. The film is currently in pre-production and is expected to release in 2027.

He has promised a comfortable and professional atmosphere on the sets amidst the shoot to Tripti.” Vanga’s strong response Vanga responded with a fiery post on X, writing: “When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith.
