An unreleased Lizzo track, which references the controversial jeans ad featuring Sydney Sweeney, has landed in legal trouble due to copyright infringement. The song's clips have made their way on social media.

American pop star Lizzo is being sued in a California court over a snippet of an unreleased song that went viral because of a reference to Sydney Sweeney. The post blew up in August after a reference to the US actress whose appearance in a jeans advertisement had already set the internet ablaze. The social media post in question for the track "I'm goin' in till October" has the four-time Grammy winner wearing not very much as she washes a car and says "I got good jeans like I'm Sydney." But lawyers for a firm called GRC Trust say the clip of the track -- which has never been sold -- uses a sample of "Win or Lose (We Tried)," a '70s soul ballad by American band Windy City, without permission. The firm, which owns the copyright for the track, wants Lizzo to compensate them because she "obtained profits they would not have realized but for their infringement" of the rights of the song. Lawyers say they tried to come to an informal agreement with Lizzo's team, "but reached an impasse, necessitating the filing of this case." The suit seeks an injunction to prevent the Lizzo song being distributed and money equal to the "defendants' profits, plus all GRC's losses." A representative for Lizzo told AFP: "We are surprised that the GRC Trust filed this lawsuit." "To be clear, the song has never been commercially released or monetized, and no decision has been made at this time regarding any future commercial release of the song."

These include e-commerce sites, YouTube channels, digital outlets and more.

The restriction extends to AI-generated and Metaverse formats as well, marking one of the first such judicial protections against emerging digital misrepresentations.

The actor-politician had approached the court after discovering several platforms were exploiting his persona by selling unauthorised merchandise like T-shirts and posters for commercial purposes without his consent. The actor alleged several AI-generated images, memes, and videos also distorted his identity for profit or publicity.

Chiranjeevi’s persona is of high commercial value

The court acknowledged that Chiranjeevi is one of the most celebrated figures in Indian cinema. It noted that his identity, including popular monikers such as ‘Mega Star,’ ‘Chiru,’ ‘Annayya,’ and "Boss", carries immense cultural and commercial significance. The court stated that unauthorised use of such monikers could mislead the public into thinking they were endorsed by the actor himself.

"The images appear to have been created by morphing the plaintiff's face and used for commercial purposes or propagating political, anti-national, or salacious content. The potential damage is irreparable," the court stated.

The injunction restrains defendants numbered 1 to 33 and 36 from using Chiranjeevi's likeness in any form-physical, digital, or future media, including AI and the Metaverse.

Other celebrities who have sought legal help for the protection of their personality rights

Chiranjeevi is not the only celebrity to have approached the court seeking protection of personality rights. Chiranjeevi’s persona is of high commercial value The court acknowledged that Chiranjeevi is one of the most celebrated figures in Indian cinema. Other celebrities who have sought legal help for the protection of their personality rights Chiranjeevi is not the only celebrity to have approached the court seeking protection of personality rights. Several notable figures have taken legal steps previously, including Amitabh Bachchan, Rajinikanth, Hrithik Roshan, Kumar Sanu, Arijit Singh, Asha Bhosle, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, Akkineni Nagarjuna, Akshay Kumar and more.

There had been a historical shift in India's stand on the Israel-Palestine conflict. India has on several occasions abstained from voting against Israel, an international call for a military embargo and refused to join the genocide case at the Hague.

Social causes on Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

Not just on screen but off screen to,o Smriti Irani has been actively creating awareness about various social issues related to women. Recently, she walked the ramp at the Bombay Times Fashion Week. The actor, in a recent interview with Mumbai Mirror, said, "I've always believed that a saree is never limiting for a woman. It's graceful, carries a piece of our history, and exudes dignity. It doesn't confine a woman to a particular size or body type."

The show also addresses the body image issues that women in the country face.

"We took up the issue of ageing and body shaming because these are fundamental challenges women deal with every day. For me, as someone who has been part of the creative industry, it was important to highlight them. When we did Kyunki, we did not only address issues of body shaming and ageing, but also dealt with challenges that men face," the actor said.

For instance, if a false case is filed, can women stand up for such men? That is not something you would normally expect in a television show or film, as people often say we are not progressive enough. The fact that such progressive elements are now accepted not only on TV but also on OTT platforms speaks volumes. We have truly entered an era of fearlessness," Smriti added.

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 airs on Star Plus at 10:30 pm.

However, fate had different plans. The global recession in 2008 hit the financial sector hard, leaving Parineeti without job prospects in the UK. Disheartened but determined, she returned to India to rebuild her career from scratch.

Also Read: Alia Bhatt shares glimpses of an intimate Diwali celebration with Ranbir Kapoor

From PR desk to the silver screen

Back in India, Parineeti approached her cousin Priyanka Chopra’s mother, Dr. Madhu Chopra, for career guidance. With her help, Parineeti joined Yash Raj Films (YRF) as a public relations and marketing intern, handling film campaigns and events.

It was here that destiny intervened. While working behind the scenes, her natural charm and confidence caught the eye of YRF’s casting team. She was asked to give a dummy audition for fun, where she reenacted Kareena Kapoor’s iconic “Geet” from Jab We Met. When Aditya Chopra saw the tape, he instantly recognised her potential. Soon after, she was offered a three-film contract.

The breakthrough

In 2011, Parineeti made her acting debut in Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, where she played the feisty and outspoken Dimple Chaddha. Despite being a supporting character, her infectious energy and comic timing stood out, earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

Also Read: Deepika and Ranveer share FIRST photos of daughter Dua on the occasion of Diwali

The following year, she proved her mettle as a lead actress in Ishaqzaade (2012) opposite Arjun Kapoor.
