What is Abyss?

In episode 7, Dustin shares what he read in Dr. Brenner’s journal, revealing that the Upside Down is not a separate world but a portal between Hawkins and another dimension.

Using a diagram shaped like a cylinder with a circle at both ends, Dustin explains the physics behind what Upside Down acts as a bridge connecting Hawkins to another world, the Abyss.
Vecna was sent to this alien dimension after Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) banished him during their first fight at Dr. Brenner’s laboratory. It was there that he transformed into a humanoid monster made of live vines through his body. Even at the end of Season 4, when Vecna was shot by Nancy (Natalia Dyer), he returned to the Abyss to recover his strength. This is also why Eleven was unable to locate him in the Upside Down.

What is the Abyss like?

In Stranger Things, the rocky landscapes with steep canyons, stormy yellow skies, and the realm where Vecna keeps his captured victims are all parts of the Abyss.
– By Sayyeda Maryam Ziya

It is the era of comebacks in Hindi cinema. A time when actors who were dismissed, subjected to memes, or simply forgotten- are returning with a confidence that tells us they never went anywhere. The industry just stopped looking.

Nepo-kids and their comeback

Leading this renaissance is Akshaye Khanna. A man who has zero tolerance for rubbish, loves his solitude, knows exactly where his strengths lie, fully accepts his shortcomings, and refuses to bend for anybody. He walks into a frame with the calm of someone who does not need to prove anything and still ends up stealing every scene. With Dhurandhar, he has unlocked a new level of relevance. He is cool, aware, effortless, and unbothered in the way only actors with true self-worth can be. Add to this the nostalgic reminder that his father, the legendary Vinod Khanna, once danced the iconic FALA steps, and it becomes clear that Akshaye is not just back, he is carrying a legacy forward with fresh fire.

Right beside him in this comeback wave swims Bobby Deol. His role in Animal single-handedly rewired audience expectations. Bobby barely spoke a word and still managed to become the most unforgettable part of the film. That stillness, that feral unpredictability, that brooding presence, all combined into a performance that turned him into a national obsession. Bobby did not return for small pickings. He returned to conquer.

The return of the King and Queen

The Comeback Era has royalty too. Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji have reminded everyone why they were adored in the first place. SRK charged back into cinemas with Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki in 2023 and reminded the world why his name alone can move a nation. Rani delivered one of her most emotional and grounded performances in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway in 2023 and brought back that intimate magic only she can deliver. Their returns did not feel strategic. They felt inevitable.

Emraan Hashmi’s range

Meanwhile, Emraan Hashmi has quietly crafted one of the most surprising glow-ups of the decade. After years of being boxed into a certain image, he walked into Bastards of Bollywood with a performance that was sharp, sly, controlled, and dangerously charismatic. No old formulas. No nostalgia gimmicks. Just pure craft. Emraan reminded everyone that he always had the range. People simply forgot. Now he has added Haq to his resume, and suddenly, he is being taken seriously.

Farah Khan, the YouTube sensation

Even creators behind the camera are living new second innings. Farah Khan reinvented herself through YouTube with the most unlikely partner in crime, her cook Dilip. The show is warm, chaotic, honest and extremely bingeable. Farah’s comeback works because it does not pretend to be anything. It is just her being her and the audience realised how much they missed that unfiltered version of her.

Maddy’s era

R Madhavan is another revelation of this era. He has transitioned from national crush to risk taking pan Indian storyteller. Shaitaan allowed him to tap into an intense, morally complex space that audiences did not expect. Rocketry pushed him even further as he wrote, directed and starred in a film that demanded complete creative courage. Dhurandhar showed a very different side (and look) of the actor Madhavan’s comeback is not a return. For Maddy, it has been an evolution of film choices and roles.

John Abraham’s experiments

Then there is John Abraham, who surprised even his biggest fans by delivering a cold, still, deliciously intimidating antagonist performance as Jim in Pathaan. John finally discovered a zone that fits him perfectly. A space where his physicality, silence and controlled aura come together to create a villain who is both intimidating and irresistible. His career did not restart. It recalibrated.

Himesh Reshammiya’s reign

At the centre of the most unexpected comeback of all is Himesh Reshammiya. The man returned to the stage with stadium-sized concerts that sold out instantly. The memes melted. The nostalgia hit hard. The audience screamed every lyric like their younger selves had been waiting for this moment. He came back with his cap, his heartbreak-soaked voice, and his signature energy. And the world embraced him exactly as he is. No reinvention needed.

So why is Bollywood obsessed with comebacks right now? The answer is incredibly simple. The audience has grown up. They no longer care about hype. They care about honesty, skill and originality. At the same time, the old gatekeepers have lost their monopoly. Streaming, social media, and a new culture of fan-driven narratives have given actors a second life without needing box office approval. The system changed, and suddenly, the forgotten found their opening.

The comeback era is not just a cinematic trend. It is a cultural reset. It celebrates the return of the unshakeables, the misunderstood, the experimental, the quietly brilliant, and the ones who refused to beg for relevance. And honestly, this is the most fun Bollywood has been in a long time.

Hindi cinema is seeing a resurgence of some old faces. From Akshaye Khanna to Bobby Deol to John Abraham- some of the well-known names of Bollywood are making a splashing comeback after a brief hiatus. Take a look.

– By Sayyeda Maryam Ziya It is the era of comebacks in Hindi cinema. A time when actors who were dismissed, subjected to memes, or simply forgotten- are returning with a confidence that tells us they never went anywhere. The industry just stopped looking. Nepo-kids and their comeback Leading this renaissance is Akshaye Khanna.

It perfectly connects the dots from past seasons, answers many questions, and introduces new twists and turns, all packed with emotionally charged moments. At some moments, yes, but not all the time.

In India, the new volume premiered at 6:30 AM, and like many others, I eagerly woke up to dive back into the world of the nerds, the adults, and their growing team as they fight against Vecna and the military in Hawkins.

Volume 2 feels like the Duffer Brothers had a lot to explain to give the audience a satisfactory ending with no unanswered questions left. While each episode lasts more than an hour, it eventually stretches to the point of becoming confusing. Multiple things are happening at once, demanding a lot of focus. At the same time, whenever your attention shifts here and there, it does not make you feel guilty enough to rewind, as there is a lot already to focus on.

That said, the Duffer Brothers know how to play the game, and they do. They win at some moments and lose at others.

Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2: Plot explained

The new volume, comprising three episodes, starts exactly where Volume 1 ended. Will (Noah Schnapp) reconnects with his powers and saves his friends from the Demogorgons as they attempt to rescue the children from Vecna. The group, yet again, plans to reconnect Will to the hive mind with an electrifying plan, which once again allows Vecna to gain control over him.

Meanwhile, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) and Hopper (David Harbour) escape from the military base in the Upside Down along with Eight, another child from Hawkins whom Eleven met in season 2. Another group is Nancy’s (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), Steve (Joe Keery), and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), and they are at Hawkins Lab, where they are on a mission to uncover the origin of Vecna’s world and to find the shield protecting him. This leads the group to divide into two, and Dustin discovers Dr Brenner’s (Matthew Modine) journal, which reveals what the Upside Down truly is and what lies behind the massive flesh wall. Meanwhile, Jonathan and Nancy do something they shouldn't, and it's life-threatening. But nothing happens to them

Then there’s Holly (Nell Fisher) and Max’s (Sadie Sink), who are travelling through Vecna's memories to find their way out. Across different worlds, multiple storylines unfold at the same time as everyone prepares for the final battle against Vecna. And at the last, when everyone comes togethert their last battle with Venca begins with the last crawl!

Stranger Things: The thrill is missing!

From Season 1, Stranger Things has hooked viewers with the biggest to the biggest and tiniest to the tiniest things. Every act of Vecna, to Eleven or any other cast member, each moment in the show can surprise you; if not that, it fills you up with excitement to wait and watch what comes next. But this passion was hard to feel in Volume 2 of the show, and several things were either dragged or explained with a complexity that I felt was very easy to overlook or pass.

Starting with chapter 5, Shock Jock, the pace feels slow as the story lingers through different dimensions. However, it still holds your interest for a few moments, as it reveals things about Dr Kay (Linda Hamilton) and her real motives with Eleven, Will’s power to get into Vecna’s mind, and at last, Dustin’s revelation about the bridge formed between the two worlds. Chapter 6 is one of the most gripping among the three episodes. Chapter 7 is fine, as it shows the clan understand Vecna's plan. But what I felt was majorly missing throughout Volume 2 was the ‘’wow'' factor.

Eleven is in the backseat, throughout!

In Volume 1, the makers gave attention to Will, and it was a fantastic shift. But in this drill, they forget to focus on Eleven, who was the soul of the show so far. She and her powers did a few things to save her clan, but the energy around her character is way too silent. And even her chemistry with Kali, aka Eight, didn't work that much. More than her, the story that was unfolding at Hawkins Lab between Nancy, Jonathan, Steve, and Dustin hooked me.

Heavy on emotions

Premiered in 2016, the Duffer Brothers created a show that made the audience live every frame of it with a great story, structured narration, and powerful characters. But to wrap up the story and give the characters a deserved send-off, they seemed to become overwhelmed as they made this sci-fi series more of an emotional saga, heavy on poignant moments. Even Will’s coming-out moment, which had been awaited for a long time, didn’t leave that impression.

What works

The three episodes work in moments; the Upside Down world is framed well, and the actors did their best with what they were asked to do. But what they can do when the story itself is stuck between two distinct worlds. Henry Creel and Vecna had the best moments in the show; one of the best scenes was when Will controlled Vecna's mind.

Nevertheless, despite how Volume 2 lacked at many points with no thrill at some points, fans will watch it, and this is what the Duffer Brothers had built in the past nine-years.

The countdown to the final has started, and hopes are high for it.

Stranger Things Season 4 Volume 2 is out, and it’s thrilling, not that much though. It perfectly connects the dots from past seasons, answers many questions, and introduces new twists and turns, all packed with emotionally charged moments.
