Filmmaker Farhan Akhtar has sought Rs 40 crore from Ranveer Singh as compensation following the actor's exit from his film Don 3. Akhtar's film is reportedly in advanced pre-production stage and Ranveer has been asked to pay for the cost incurred so far.

Ranveer Singh’s exit from Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3 hasn’t been smooth, it seems. Akhtar’s production house, Excel Entertainment, has reportedly sought hefty compensation from the Dhurandhar star post his exit from its production. What's the controversy about? According to sources, the filmmaker has demanded Rs 40 crore in damages. The movie, which was expected to go on floors from January 2026, is reportedly now in advanced stages of pre-production. Excel Entertainment is said to have incurred substantial expenses on script development, scheduling, location planning, and other preparatory work. The production house has allegedly cited these sunk costs and delays as the primary reason for seeking compensation. Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh has alleged that he walked out of the film because he was not happy with the script. Singh had reportedly asked for changes in the script earlier. Excel states that the pre-production work only began after Ranveer gave his approval to the script. Also read: Has Ranveer Singh walked out of Don 3? North Korea is 'executing' its own citizens for this offence. Here's why

Still from Tom and Jerry

The evolution of animation styles also reflects the franchise’s ability to adapt without losing its soul. The early Hanna-Barbera era (1940–1957) defined the golden age look: expressive faces, fluid motion, cinematic framing, and rich musical storytelling. The Gene Deitch years in the early 1960s brought experimental design and darker tones. Chuck Jones introduced sharper lines, stylised forms, and surreal energy. Later television eras simplified visuals for new formats and younger audiences. The modern Warner Bros. era refined the classic look with cleaner animation while preserving the original spirit. Across every era, the design evolved, but Tom and Jerry remained recognisable, readable, and emotionally consistent.

The supporting cast helped build this world into something bigger than a two-character chase. Spike and Tyke added strength and tenderness. Tuffy (or Nibbles) brought chaos in miniature. Butch, Toodles, Quacker, and the Alley Cat Gang expanded the social universe. Mrs. Dinah Two Shoes, George and Joan, Jeannie, and later Rick and Ginger grounded the madness in human spaces. Each character added texture without stealing the core dynamic.

What truly cements Tom and Jerry’s place in pop culture is resilience. They’ve survived changing mediums, shifting audiences, evolving technology, and decades of entertainment trends. From theatrical shorts to television, from black-and-white animation to digital formats, they’ve adapted without losing identity or the fandom.

They also represent something deeply human. The endless chase. The rivalry that never resolves. The cycle of trying, failing, trying again. There’s comfort in that repetition. Something familiar. Something honest. Tom and Jerry mirror real relationships more than we admit: competition, companionship, affection, frustration, loyalty.

At 86, Tom and Jerry are no longer just characters. They are cultural memory. They live in childhoods, nostalgia, visual language, memes, and references. They are shorthand for chaos, rivalry, and timeless comedy.

And yet, they still feel current. Because silence still works. Because physical comedy still works. Because emotion still works. Because good storytelling still works.

Eighty-six years later, they’re still running.

And the world is still watching.

Saudi Arabia is a land of diversity - spanning from skyscrapers in Riyadh and Jeddah to ancient rocks and petroglyphs in Al Ula. Saudi Arabia takes you by surprise. There are multiple flights from Mumbai that can take you to Riyadh directly. I chose an Akasa Air flight, which flew me directly to Riyadh.

What to see in Riyadh?

Riyadh has a lot to see - the Kingdom Sky bridge at the 99th floor is a must-visit to see far spanning views across the city. Boulevard World is a great place to see in the evenings. It is designed with themed countries across the world and has rides, global cuisines and shopping options. Al Masmak Palace houses ancient culture and artefacts. Diriyah showcases how people lived around a century ago. In Riyadh, I also experienced a mystery room called The Box Experience, designed like a heist room in a museum. Though I wasn’t able to crack it entirely, it was a lot of fun and I highly recommend it.

While in Riyadh, I stayed at Riyadh Al Anoud. While in AlUla, we stayed at Shaden Resort which is located amidst ancient rock structures. As soon as we got close to AlUla, the ancient rock structures greeted us. Shaden Resort also planned high tea in the evening and held a special gathering in their outdoor area - Majlis Al Shajara. In the evenings, the Rock Cafe came alive with sports screenings and fun activities. La Palma Terrace, the all-day dining, offered exquisite vegetarian meals. After exploring AlUla, I drove to Jeddah - a 7-hour drive.

The souks of Jeddah

In Jeddah, I stayed at the Swissotel Living and explored the city.
