On Friday (Feb 20), actor and businessman Raj Kundra was granted bail in connection with a Bitcoin money laundering case. The bail was granted by a special court in Mumbai. Following the court’s decision, Kundra interacted with the media briefly, saying, " Satyamev Jayate...(truth alone triumphs).". In the Bitcoin Ponzi scheme case, Kundra, who is married to Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, has allegedly been a beneficial owner of transactions worth Rs 150 crore. He was not arrested during the investigation but was summoned by a special PMLA court in connection with the alleged fraud case. Speaking to the media outside the court in Mumbai, Kundra said, "I always had full faith in the Judiciary system, when I know that I have not done anything wrong, so it's a relief that Judiciary notices it and gives the relief. Filmmaker James Cameron has written a letter arguing that if Netflix is successful in its bid for Warner Bros.' studio and streaming businesses, it could cause huge job loss, change the theatrical landscape and hurt the film export business, according to Variety. The 'Avatar' filmmaker sent his letter last week to Senator Mike Lee, chair of the Senate subcommittee on antitrust, and the letter was then recently obtained by CNBC. "I believe strongly that the proposed sale of Warner Brothers Discovery to Netflix will be disastrous for the theatrical motion picture business that I have dedicated my life's work to," Cameron wrote in the letter. "Of course, my films all play in the downstream video markets as well, but my first love is the cinema," as quoted by Variety. The filmmaker, best known for directing the blockbuster 'Avatar' franchise, cautioned that a contraction in big-budget film production would have sweeping consequences. He predicted that if the number of large-scale films declines, "Theaters will close. Fewer films will be made. The job losses will spiral." Cameron argued that Netflix's streaming-first business model conflicts with the traditional theatrical system. "The business model of Netflix is directly at odds with the theatrical film production and exhibition business, which employs hundreds of thousands of Americans," he wrote. "It is therefore directly at odds with the business model of the Warner Brothers movie division, one of the few remaining major movie studios," according to Variety. Responding to the concerns, Senator Lee said in a statement, "We have received outreach from actors, directors, and other interested parties about the proposed Netflix and Warner Brothers merger, and I share many of their concerns. I look forward to holding a follow-up hearing to further address these issues." Cameron also contends that exports of Hollywood films would suffer in a Netflix-Warners merger. "The U.S. may no longer lead in auto or steel manufacturing, but it is still the world leader in movies. That will change for the worse," according to Variety.

Actress Swara Bhasker has condemned the Taliban’s newly introduced penal code that “legalises” domestic violence against women. Making the situation even worse for women, the new regulation normalises violence against women, giving husbands the right to punish their wives. The new laws passed in the country have garnered massive backlash from across the world. Recently, Bhasker, who is quite vocal on social issues, slammed the new law, calling it “Unf****ng-believable!!!!” Taking to her Instagram stories, Swara wrote,''Honestly among the worst specimens of the human race, relentlessly cruel and brutal, absolute monsters the Taliban.
What does the Taliban's new law say?
A newly introduced penal code in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan gives husbands the right to physically punish their wives. However, domestic violence is punishable only when the beating is excessive and the injury is visible on the wife’s body. Article 32 highlights, as quoted in a report by the Georgetown Institute for Women, “If a husband strikes his wife with excessive beating resulting in fracture, injury, or the appearance of bruising on her body, and the wife proves her claim before the judge, the husband is deemed a criminal; the judge shall sentence him to fifteen days of imprisonment.” Reportedly, the latest regulation treats married women as their husbands' "property”. The new law also says that if a woman leaves home without permission, she will be imprisoned for three months under the Taliban regime. Under the new code, if an Afghan woman proves that she has been assaulted by her spouse, then the husband will be given a maximum sentence of 15 days.

The 90-page criminal code, signed by the Islamist group’s supreme leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, legalises physically assaulting their wives and children.

Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha is back with another socially charged film, Assi, featuring Taapsee Pannu in the lead. The hard-hitting film marks the third collaboration between the director and the actor after Mulk and Thappad. Turning the audience's attention once again towards sexual violence against women and how the system tries to interrupt the justice, the courtroom drama and crime thriller is set in Delhi. The title refers to the total number of rapes reported daily in India, and the makers ensure to remind the viewers about the same every twenty minutes in the film. The intent is clear: provoke, unsettle, and spark conversation, but does Assi achieve the goal? Taapsee Pannu plays a fierce lawyer in Anubhav Sinha's courtroom drama
About Assi’s plot
The story follows a Malayali school teacher, Parima (Kani Kusruti), who lives in Delhi with her Haryanvi husband Vinay (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) and their son Dhruv. Their normal lives take a brutal turn when, one night while returning from her school, Parima is abducted and sexually assaulted in a moving car by a group of men. The perpetrators- Sameer, Harry, and others assault her one by one and record the crime, and later dump her half dead near railway tracks. They also try to destroy the evidence by cleaning the car, burning clothes, and disposing of phones. On the other hand, Parima suffers severe physical injuries and emotional trauma. When the investigation begins, several inconsistencies come up as a hurdle in front of the court, including DNA complications and other loopholes in the case. The accused claim they are innocent, and on the night of the crime, they were headed to a wedding and their car was stolen. Eventually, the court grants them bail. Also Read: Birthday special: A look at Taapsee Pannu's most remarkable on-screen performances Then comes Raavi (Taapsee Pannu), a fierce lawyer who takes up the case to provide justice to Parima, while dealing with her own emotions after losing someone close in a hit-and-run. Her silence, physical vulnerability, and dialogue hit hard. Additionally, she conveys trauma with unsettling realism without melodrama. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub playing her husband is no less. She shines particularly in the second half during courtroom confrontations. Her final monologue, addressing an accused who assaulted his own wife, is gripping-even if a little dramatic. Other supporting actors also perform well. Some thought-provoking dialogues land hard, such as justifications about the crime from the accused. The film doesn’t hold back in portraying how a sexual assault is seen in society, including victim-blaming and institutional failures, without sensationalising the topic. While the performances are top-notch, the film’s graphics feel too much as the assault scene is a little overwhelming and depicts excruciating detail. Another point that feels unnecessary is that the film presents multiple threads, such as vigilante killings and Kartik’s emotional arc. While it catches attention individually, overall, the story feels fragmented. While Raavi and Kartik’s characters do hold significance, they needed a little more attention. Some cameo appearances from popular actors, including Naseeruddin Shah, feel underutilized, and some subplots are left incomplete. Pannu’s final monologue, as well, feels a little diverted from the survivor’s journey, and some moments, such as including children in the courtroom, feel engineered rather than organic.
What’s the final verdict?
Assi brings out a harrowing and unsettling story that is gripping for sure. It is not an easy watch, and the performances of the actors are overall on point. However, while trying to address too many issues, including justice, trauma, parenting, and vigilantism, Anubhav Sinha’s film diverts from its original intention. But despite its flaws, Assi has the potential to keep the viewers stuck to their seats till the end.

Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Assi is a gripping thriller that sparks conversation about sexual violence against women and the challenges that block the attempt to provide justice to the victims. Led by Taapsee Pannu, the film showcases unsettling realism.

Anurag Kashyap's Kennedy is not an easy watch; it is disturbing, brutal, and haunting. Much like Kashyap's past films, this movie also portrays the unsettling side of the society in which we all live. After travelling around the world through various film festivals, including Cannes, the film’s journey has finally come to an end, as it is now available for audiences to watch in India. Kennedy stars Rahul Bhat as an insomniac ex-cop who struggles through each day of his life and carries a troubled past, and has committed several wrongs. Set during the COVID-19 pandemic, the movie only reminds us of that time when there was silence on the roads and everyone was forced to wear masks. Kennedy is not an easy film to watch. If we talk about Anurag Kashyap’s cinema, it has often been extremely raw, violent, and at times glamorous, where there are no clear heroes or villains; they are just human beings who have done questionable things and are living with the guilt of their past deeds. However, Kennedy is moody, tragic, and silent, slightly different from the director’s earlier works, which were politically loud and at times chaotic.
Kennedy: What is it about?
Rahul Bhatt plays Uday Shetty, an ex-cop who has long been presumed dead in the eyes of the world and is now living in the shadows. Troubled by his past, Kennedy is on a killing spree. His past is gradually revealed as the film unfolds, we slowly learn more about the character. Under the orders of a corrupt commissioner (Mohit Takalkar) and driven to take revenge for his son’s death, he steps out at night as a cab driver while the rest of the world sleeps.
Kashyap's commentary on a haunting real world
Kennedy is dark and ghostly, and is seen through the eyes of a soulless man. In one scene of the movie, it is not Kennedy who kills the MLA; instead, the MLA’s own son brutally murders both his father and mother after they refuse to fulfil his wishes. In this, Kennedy is an observer of the rotting, problematic society, beyond the corrupt political world and system. The scene ends with Kennedy killing the boy in the most brutal form, but it's cold. No feelings attached. Beyond this brutal image, there is a family man inside Kennedy. He is struggling to stay away from them, but it is his own actions that have pushed the family apart. He earns money for his wife (Megha Burman) and daughter (Haripriya Manish Lodhia). He watches their every move from a distance, misses them deeply, yet cannot return. It was his wrongdoing that destroyed his family life, and he has paid for it through the loss of his son. The two-and-a-half-hour-long film unfolds in darkness, and almost every sequence carries another killing. Alongside the violence, however, the film reveals the darker side of society, told through an individual, in this movie, it's Kennedy, who is empty and corrupted, yet very much a part of this broken system that we all co-exist in. While brutality takes centre stage, emotion balances the story.

Rahul plays the challenging character with ease, and his eyes are something that has made his emotions speak louder. There is a constant gaze that conveys pain, guilt, and emptiness without the need for dramatic dialogue. Sunny Leone's smile and lough is haunting. Although her character is not given much screen time, it serves the narrative well. The film reveals the struggling side beneath the glossy and posh world she lives in.

Still from Kennedy

Kashyap carefully crafts the world of Kennedy. The film is not compelling; instead, it pushes you to look beyond the good image of the world we are living in. It demands patience and attention, and even then, it does not aim to “grip” you in a traditional thriller sense. The pacing is slow, very slow, with a mood in which you sink in gradually. What keeps you hooked to the film? What happened to this man that made him so cold? That curiosity was only my motivation to watch this movie. The film unfolds layer by layer, revealing what has happened in his past and the emotional traumas that shaped him. The movie leaves you with darkness and a sense of heaviness. Kennedy is streaming on Zee5

Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the movie stars Rahul Bhat as Kennedy, a man, who is on a killing spree until he finds the killer of his son. The movie is brutal, dark and unsettling- typical of Anurag Kashyap's style of filmmaking.

The statement read, "With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS. He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world." Dane was vocal about his ALS diagnosis. It mainly includes the motor neurons, which control voluntary muscles located in the brain and spinal cord. When these neurons die, the brain can no longer send signals to muscles, leading to muscle weakness, loss of voluntary movement, and eventual paralysis.
What causes ALS?
Most cases of ALS have no known cause and are known as sporadic. Experts have stated that both genetic and environmental factors often lead to the onset of ALS. According to a report in the Mayo Clinic, 5–10% of ALS cases have a known genetic cause and are often linked to a family history of ALS; such cases are known as familial ALS or hereditary ALS. Also see: Grey's Anatomy to X-Men: 8 Must-watch films and shows featuring Eric Dane There is no cure for ALS so far. Once diagnosed, the goal of treatment is aimed at slowing the progress of the disease. It is fatal, with an average survival time of 3 to 5 years after symptoms start, though some live 10 years or more. The progression of the treatment depends on early detection and differs from person ti person.
Symptoms of ALS
According to Dr Goel, “early symptoms of ALS may include muscle spasms and rigidity, arm, leg, or hand weakness, trouble holding objects or walking, difficulty speaking or swallowing. As the disease progresses over time, people may also experience severe muscle weakness and paralysis, loss of the ability to speak, walk, or perform daily tasks, and breathing issues due to involvement of the respiratory muscles. However, as it may lead to physical decline, sensation typically remains normal, and cognitive functions are usually preserved.”
Is it fatal? Does it spread aggressively once diagnosed?
“Yes, ALS can be fatal,” says Dr Goel, and adds that “the progression varies among patients. The development of the disease depends on the site of onset, age, sex, genetic factors, and respiratory function. Limb-onset ALS, which begins in the arms or legs, generally develops more slowly, while bulbar-onset ALS, affecting speech and swallowing, tends to advance more rapidly. Early involvement of the respiratory muscles is associated with a poorer diagnosis. ”

Goel adds that survival rates range from two to five years after diagnosis, but with careful and comprehensive management, some patients may live for ten years or longer. It is important to clarify that ALS is not a contagious disease and does not spread among individuals.
Is there any way to take precautions or safeguard oneself?
Nutrition: It is essential to have proper nutrition in ALS to avoid weight loss and muscle atrophy. A high-calorie and high-protein diet is necessary to fulfil the energy requirements. Drinking plenty of water is also important to support digestion, circulation, and overall health. Physical Activity: Exercise must be done in a balanced manner to prevent muscle overuse. Vigorous exercise can worsen muscle fatigue and weakness. Gentle and supervised physiotherapy can also help maintain mobility and flexibility. Respiratory Care: Breathing function should be checked periodically because weakness of the respiratory muscles is a significant concern in ALS patients. If symptoms like shortness of breath, difficulty breathing when lying flat, a weak cough, or morning headaches occur, medical advice should be immediately sought. Early treatment for breathing difficulties can greatly improve survival and comfort. Psychological Support: Living with ALS can be emotionally trying for both the patient and the caregiver. Counselling and mental health support can help cope with anxiety, depression, and emotional distress. Support groups can help patients and their families connect with others who have similar experiences and provide valuable information on how to improve their quality of life.

Ghooskhor Pandat, starring Manoj Bajpayee in the lead, has been mired in controversies ever since the announcement was made in Netflix's latest slate of films and series of 2026. Coorg and Ooty are well-connected to most major airports in India. As destinations, both have stunning natural landscapes and quiet, peaceful time to offer, yet both are starkly different in their offerings. Coorg’s allure invites travellers to explore the coffee plantations of India. While staying at Ayatana Resort and Spa Coorg, I engaged in a drive around coffee plantations and explored unique ways in which coffee is served across the world. My room overlooked the stunning waterfall located inside the property itself. I had the opportunity to hike around the pebbled paths of the waterfall and saw it as the source of a small stream running across the property. The allure was unique. Away from the city life, I wanted to experience a deep tissue massage to relax my muscles. The in-house spa at the property overlooking the unique flora and fauna was the best detox I needed. While my time at Coorg was laid back, I enjoyed the food at the restaurant and gazed at the stars at night. At Ayatana Coorg, I also enjoyed a zip line experience at the property itself. As an adventure seeker, I appreciate how few properties take the effort to integrate fun into their agenda. I also enjoyed a birdwatching tour in the morning and saw Nilgiri laughing thrush, Malabar whistler, Malabar trogon, flame-throated bulbul and Malabar grey hornbill. While I was in my room, I enjoyed a soak in my bathtub and experienced deep relaxation. The views made me feel like there were no barriers between the view and my abode; I was in the middle of nature. It was a masterpiece of stunning design. Elegance and fun defined my trip to Ooty and Coorg this year. Winter is a great time to visit these South Indian hidden gems since it’s not too hot and the flora is blooming across the property. A casual drive away from the property, I came across wild elephant herds walking not too far from the cobbled roads. It was nature at its peak, and I was teleported to another era where technology didn’t exist, distractions were few and nature could be enjoyed at its peak. At the property, I kicked back and missed my city a little bit. I picked up a copy of Anindita Ghose’s The Only City and gave it a read. She spoke of a Bombay which existed in people’s imagination yet caught the pulse of the city. A beautiful read. Ooty was starkly different. There was more to explore. A day of sightseeing led me to uncover paths to Sim’s Park, Pykara waterfalls, Dolphin’s nose and Lamb’s rock. I also enjoyed visiting the local gardens and seeing roses grow in full bloom. The simple pleasures of smaller towns in India can’t be compared to any other. Back in my hotel, a sprawling room nestled among the tea plantations lay in wait. Ayatana Resort and Spa Ooty is nestled among nature and is designed to relax you. The swimming pool overlooks Ooty Valley, and the rooms are designed to calm you. The in-house restaurant Tycoon’s housed great food like oven-fresh pizzas and dosas. In Ooty, I ventured out to buy local teas, spices and chocolates. Moody’s has some of the best chocolates I have ever tried. A local singer entertained us at Tycoon’s and played some Bollywood songs. The experience was curated beyond measure. I truly enjoyed it. I also explored Coonoor and did a toy train ride. It was the same train where the iconic song “chaiya chaiya” was shot. Exploring the tea factory was a major highlight in the region. To reach Ooty, I landed in Coimbatore and drove for around 3 hours. Ooty and Coorg are almost a 6-hour drive from each other but you can break it with lunch. The closest airport to Coorg is Kannur, which is almost a four-hour drive away. The drives may be long but the views and nature make it worth the distance.

The OG protagonist Taapsee Pannu has never played by Bollywood’s rulebook and that’s exactly what makes her collaborations with filmmaker Anubhav Sinha so powerful. When Sinha talks about Taapsee, there’s no mention of stardom, market math, or box-office formulas. Instead, he speaks of belief, alignment, and a shared urgency to tell stories that matter. As the duo reunite for their third collaboration, Assi, after the critically acclaimed Mulk and Thappad, Sinha reveals that what makes working with Pannu so seamless is not strategy, it’s sincerity. “She is seeking the exact same thing that I am seeking from the film… She likes the subject matter. She connects with it. And she wants to tell that story as badly as I am,” he says, underscoring a creative partnership rooted in conviction rather than calculation. That shared hunger and not branding, not market positioning - is what makes their partnership click. According to Sinha, Pannu doesn’t approach a film as a calculated career move. “She is not doing the film because it's a career strategy… No. She rises above her own capabilities because of her belief system and conviction.” For him, that alignment of intent is the magic ingredient. Pannu has long stood apart in mainstream Hindi cinema. From socially charged narratives to emotionally complex roles, she has built a filmography rooted in substance. Whether it was confronting patriarchy in Pink, exploring prejudice in Mulk, questioning domestic normalization of violence in Thappad, unraveling suspense in Badla, or embodying resilience in Rashmi Rocket, she has consistently chosen stories that provoke conversation. The Delhi-born actor never waited for the industry to hand her space, she carved it herself, across languages and genres. Fierce, unfiltered, and unapologetically real, she represents a new blueprint for leading women in Bollywood, the OG protagonists who drives narratives rather than decorate them. With Assi, the Sinha–Pannu partnership promises yet another hard-hitting chapter. If their past collaborations are any indication, audiences can expect not just a performance, but a statement.

After Mulk and Thappad, actress Taapsee Pannu is teaming up with filmmaker Anubhav Sinha for court room drama Assi that talks about rape victims and delayed justice.
