For those who grew up in the 1990s, Yash Chopra's 'Darr' remains a cult classic. A film that catapulted Shah Rukh Khan to superstardom for playing a villain.
While the film was a superhit during its time, with the filmmaker and its actors earning praises, it is also remembered by many for its infamous fight between its two leading men- Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh Khan.
The two actors had a major fallout on the sets of the film and Deol did not talk to Khan for 16 years after that. When the actor-turned-politician was asked about his fallout during an interview to a news channel, Deol said, "It's not that I didn't talk but I just cut myself off and I anyway don't socialise much. So we never met, toh baat karne ki baat he nahi hai."
Recalling the reason behind their fight, Deol said, "I was doing a scene in the film where Shah Rukh stabs me. I had a heated discussion with Yash Chopra regarding that scene. I tried explaining that I am a commando officer in the film, my character is an expert, I am very fit, then how can this boy (Shah Rukh's character in the film) beat me easily. He can beat me if I can't see him. If he can stab me while I am looking at him, then I won't be called a commando."
When the 'Gadar' star was asked if Shah Rukh Khan and Yash Chopra were scared of him on sets of 'Darr', he said, "I guess, they must be scared because they were wrong."
Yash Chopra's 'Darr' had Sunny Deol playing the good guy and SRK playing the bad guy who is in love with Deol's girlfriend Kiran (Juhi Chawla). SRK's performance was loved by one and all and it even fetched him a Filmfare award that year.
