Selena Gomez has never shied from talking about the importance of family in her life. In every interview or public appearance, the superstar always talks about her equation with her family and the people she keeps close to her heart but destiny has other plans for her unfortunately. In a recent interview, the singer-actress opened up about “grieving” not being able to become a mother biologically.
Selena addressed the issue for the first time in a Vanity Fair cover story which was published last night (September 9). She discussed whether she looks at becoming a mother soon and if she thinks she’s ready to start a family in the next few years. The 32-year-old singer who dons many hats in professional life, admitted that she always wanted to be a mother but it won’t be possible for her to have her own children due to “medical issues”. She said that she “can’t carry” her own children however much she wants to be able to.
Selena Gomez can't have her own kids
Selena Gomez underwent a kidney transplant surgery in 2017 after struggling with lupus for years. This has led to several changes in her body.
Selena said, “I haven’t ever said this, but I unfortunately can’t carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
This wasn’t easy to digest for the singer but she has eventually come around it. She’s made peace with it now but there was a time when it was really difficult. “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it,” she said in the interview.

Surrogacy and adoption is an option for Selena Gomez
She has now thought of other options. She added, “I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone. [But] I’m in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me. It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I’m one of those people. I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
