The Mumbai Police on Wednesday registered a rape case against actor Alok Nath on a complaint filed by writer-director Vinta Nanda.

The case was filed under section 376 of IPC (rape),” Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Sharma said.

It started with Vinta writing a lengthy post on her Facebook profile, detailing the incident. She revealed that the said incident took place almost two decades ago, in which was she taken to her own house and "brutalised". She said, "I have waited for this moment to come for 19 years."

Vinta is best known for her TV show ‘Tara’.

Alok Nath responded to these allegations, saying: "Neither am I denying this nor do I would agree with it. It (rape) must have happened, but someone else would have done it. Well, I do not want to talk much about it as for the matter if it has come out, it will be stretched."

He then went on to file a civil defamation suit against her, seeking Re 1 as damages claiming that Vinta had defamed him by stating she was sexually harassed by him in the 90s. The court, however, did not rule in his favour.
