Legendary Malayalam singer P Jayachandran passes away at 80
Entertainment: Widely recognised for his contribution to Indian music, P Jayachandran won several awards for best playback singer, including the National Film Award for Best Playback Singer.
Famous Malayalam playback singer P Jayachandran is no more. The veteran singer, lovingly known as Bhava Gayakan, died on January 9 at the age of 80.
Jayachandran transcended generations with his soulful renditions breathed his last at Amala Hospital in Thrissur, where he was reportedly receiving treatment for liver-related ailments.
The singer died at around 7.55 pm on Thursday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here, hospital sources said.
Reportedly, the singer has been unwell for quite some time and was taken to the hospital after he collapsed at his residence today.
Known and loved for his melodious voice, Jayachandran recorded over 16,000 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

Born on March 3, 1944, in Ernakulam, Jayachandran, his musical journey began from chilhood when he started singing classical music and playing mridangam.
After completing his studies from Christ College, Irinjalakuda, he worked at a private firm in Chennai. However, he got his first break when producer Sobhana Parameswaran Nair and director A Vincent saw his performance at fundrasing show in Chennai and offered him to sing in a film.
He made debut with the song ''Oru Mullappoo Malayumayi'' for the movie Kunjali Marakkar in 1965.
Later he went on to sing several iconic Malayalam songs, including ''Neelagiriyude Sakhikale'', ''Swarnagopura Narthaki Shilpam'', ''Anuraga Ganam Pole'',''Upasana Upasana'', ''Neeyoru Puzhayayi'', ''Enthe Innum Vanneela'', ''Ararum Kanathe Aromal Thaimulla'', ''Prayam Thammil Moham Nalki.''
The singer is survived by wife, Lalitha, daughter Lakshmi and son Dinanathan.
