If all goes as planned, HBO's Harry Potter adaptation is keen on getting Mark Rylance on board as it's Dumbledore. According to Variety, he is at the top of the wishlist of HBO makers.
Mark Rylance is currently starring as Thomas Cromwell in the highly-anticipated BBC period drama Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light. Variety, while keen on getting him onboard, hasn’t yet entered into negotiations with the actor.
A representative for HBO told Variety: “We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumour and speculation. As we make our way through pre-production, we will only confirm details as we finalise deals.”
Harry Potter casting call
The Harry Potter adaptation TV series will get newcomers on board in the roles of lead characters – Harry, Hermione and Ron. Warner Bros. recently launched an open casting call for kids aged between 9 and 11 earlier this year to get some fresh faces.
Mark Mylod will direct multiple episodes of the series, which aims to adapt J.K. Rowling’s books with a fresh take.

The original series of films had Richard Harris as Professor Dumbledore, Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall and Alan Rickman as Professor Snape. The actors went on to become synonymous with these characters and possibly became the most famous and iconic roles they played on screen.
Meanwhile, Mark Rylance is best known for his performances in Bridge of Spies and Dunkirk.
