South Korean actor Hong Mingi, known for Study Group and Love Your Enemy, has been grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons. The actor has reportedly been accused of several instances of physical and emotional abuse, including alleged assault, threats and controlling behaviour. She later made further claims involving an alleged pregnancy and abortion. In follow-up, the actor's agency has even responded to the serious allegations.
How did the Hong Mingi controversy begin?
The controversy surrounding Hong Mingi erupted on August 19, 2026, after a woman identified as “A” shared a detailed account of her alleged relationship with the actor on social media. She also posted a certified legal document dated July 28, titled 'A Notice Concerning Legal Action over Alleged Criminal Acts'. According to reports, the document outlined a series of accusations against the 24-year-old actor.
Among her allegations were claims that the actor threw a soju bottle in her direction, struck her shoulder, pushed her and grabbed her by the neck. She also alleged that he became aggressive when he suspected she was seeing another man. She further claimed that Hong repeatedly contacted her, including making around 40 calls, and allegedly made threatening comments. She also accused him of accessing her phone and KakaoTalk messages without permission because of what she described as extreme jealousy.
Another allegation involved an electric kickboard. She claimed Hong rode it while intoxicated with her accompanying him and that an accident left her injured. The woman also described what she characterised as a cycle of aggressive behaviour followed by affection. She said the experience eventually left her dealing with fear, trembling, night sweats and sleep problems.

The controversy later expanded when the former partner made claims concerning an alleged pregnancy and abortion. Reports say she accused Hong of pressuring her to terminate a pregnancy. Hong's agency has denied this allegation as well and questioned the authenticity or interpretation of an ultrasound image that she presented.
Hong Ming's agency response to the woman's allegations against the actor
The actor's agency Fable Company has strongly rejected the accusations. The agency initially said the claims were not true and explained that Hong had avoided making a public statement because the matter concerned a private relationship and he had hoped to resolve it without further escalation.
According to the agency's version, Hong and “A” began dating around April 2026. It alleged that Hong later discovered she had maintained contact with a former boyfriend while they were together. The agency also claimed it had CCTV footage showing her visiting Hong's residence and interfering with the building's security camera.
Fable Company said it was considering civil and criminal legal action, including defamation proceedings, over what it considers false allegations. It also raised the possibility of legal action concerning alleged stalking.
What happened recently at Hong Ming's residence?
The dispute escalated further on August 23. According to a report published by The Chosun Ilbo citing OSEN, Hong's former partner allegedly visited his residence and caused a disturbance, prompting police to be called. Fable Company confirmed that the incident occurred.
The agency also referred to an earlier August 19 incident in which it alleged that the woman remained outside Hong's home for several hours and kicked the door. The agency said CCTV footage captured her covering the entrance camera with stickers. The former partner, however, has maintained her own account of events and has said she intends to pursue legal action.
Will Hong Mingi be able to feature in Study Group 2?
The controversy has also led fans to question the future of Study Group season 2, particularly because Hong Mingi is part of its cast. Reports indicate that Hong has already filmed his scenes for the second season, in which he reprises his role as Park Geon Yeop. As of the latest reports, there has been no confirmed announcement that his character will be recast or removed.
The allegations quickly gained attention because Hong is a rising actor who has appeared in dramas including Love Your Enemy, Study Group, Crushology 101 and Trigger. He was also nominated for Best New Actor – Television at the 2026 Baeksang Arts Awards for To My Beloved Thief.
