Medical dramas often explore the difficult choices doctors must make when a patient’s life is at stake. Doctor X: The Age of the White Mafia adds another layer by examining what happens when hospital politics, professional egos and financial interests threaten to overshadow patient care. In episodes 3 and 4, Gye Su Jeong’s talent puts her at odds with the hospital’s hierarchy, while the arrival of a new surgeon introduces a troubling development that changes the direction of the story.
What happens in episode 3 and 4 of Doctor X?
Episode 3 offers a glimpse into key events surrounding Gye Su Jeong and the hospital administration. Su Jeong has another opportunity to demonstrate why her surgical skills set her apart. When a hospital cleaning contractor suffers a brain haemorrhage, the medical team struggles to decide how to proceed. Rather than allow the patient’s condition to worsen while the doctors debate their options, Su Jeong takes charge and performs the emergency surgery. Also Read: Doctor X ep (1-2) review: Kim Ji Won's bold avatar challenges hospital politics, medical ethics in a promising opening The operation succeeds, but the response from her colleagues reveals the deeper problem at Gu Seodae Hospital. Director Bu Seung Gwon eventually acknowledges the institution’s responsibility and apologises, suggesting that change may be possible. That prospect quickly becomes uncertain when Bu appoints Na Dae il and puts Su Jeong’s agreement on hold. The development shifts the conflict from a struggle between Su-jeong and the existing hospital hierarchy to a more personal contest involving the new surgeon. Whereas in episode 4, Su Jeong goes into the emergency department, where she continues to work under demanding conditions. The arrival of Dae il initially presents a different kind of challenge. He appears professional and approachable, but his interest in Su Jeong and his conduct around the hospital leave room for doubt about his intentions. A separate case involving pharmaceutical company employee Kwon Chung-hyun becomes the episode’s most significant storyline. Kwon has a history with Dae il, who saved his life during their military service. When Kwon’s condition worsens, Su Jeong believes delaying surgery could prove fatal. Her decision to intervene creates further tension with Dae il, who disagrees with her assessment. The operation leads to a disturbing discovery: Su-jeong notices the initials “D.N.” marked on Kwon’s liver. The detail raises questions about Dae il’s previous treatment of the patient and casts a shadow over the image he has presented to his colleagues. Rather than resolving the conflict, the revelation opens a more troubling mystery for the drama to explore.
What works?
Su Jeong's confidence and refusal to bow to hiearchy gives the series a strong centre. In addition, the Dae il's arrival changes the dynamic, and the discovery during Kwon's surgery gives a story a compelling question to pursue. The emergencies keep the episodes moving and show Su Jeong’s skills through action rather than lengthy explanations. The storyline connects individual decisions to institutional problems, including reputation management and professional power. Also Read: Anirudh Ravichander-Kavya Maran wedding: PM Modi, CM Vijay receive invites for a star-studded Chennai reception
What does not work?
The contrast between a principled doctor and an institution preoccupied with status can feel predictable. Doctor X ep (3-4) review: Kim Ji Won’s Su Jeong challenges the system as a new surgeon raises doubts

South Korean dramas have found a growing audience in India with their stories of romance, friendship, family and everyday life. Filmmaker Kiran Rao recently has expressed her love for one of her favourite K-dramas and said that she would love to bring it to Indian viewers: the acclaimed series Reply 1988. She praised the show’s portrayal of family relationships and close-knit neighbourhood life and much more.
What is the show Reply 1988 about?
Reply 1988 is a South Korean television series and the third installment of the Reply anthology series. The show tells the story of five childhood friends and their families living in the same Ssangmun-dong neighbourhood in Seoul. It is set primarily in 1988, the year of the Seoul Olympics; the story spans several years into the mid-1990s as the teenagers grow into adulthood. Also Read: Before Extraordinary Minami Minami, these popular K-dramas got Japanese versions The bittersweet transition from youth to adulthood, awkward adolescent crushes, and a long-running husband mystery asking which of the male friends Deok Sun eventually marries. My Bias, My Boss ep (9-12) review: Kang Hoon-Kim Hye Jun deliver warm ending despite uneven twists

South Korean drama Four Hands, Two Sonatas, featuring Song Kang and Lee Jun Young, has been the talk of the town ever since it premiered on September 4 on streaming platform Netflix. The makers so far have released four episodes showcasing the process of friendship and the bond of individuals in the world of elite music. But their paths cross at Korea Arts High School, where their contrasting approaches to music immediately put them at odds. But will they surpass all the odds and keep their bond intact, or will it dissolve away for good?
What has happened in Four Hands, Two Sonatas (episodes 1-4)?
In episode one of the South Korean show, it begins in medias res at the finals of the Harmonie International Competition. A young pianist with bloodied fingers plays brilliantly while having flashbacks to a disturbing, violent incident himself and Choi Jeong Yo. The episode then jumps back six months to explain how their relationship turned so dark. Also Read: The Chainsmokers concert: 14 hospitalised after medical emergency in San Jose

Then introduces the characters and begins with Kang Pi O, a perfectionist driven by intense discipline, burdened by a pressurised single-parent upbringing, and entirely focused on winning the approval of his grandfather, a world-renowned conductor. While Choi Jeong Yo represents the polar opposite of Pi O's privileged yet rigid environment, Jeong-yo steps back into the elite music world, bringing raw emotional depth rather than just technical precision. While Hong Jae In, a viola major with perfect pitch, is the only one who genuinely supports Pi O and wants him to accompany her rehearsals. In episode 2, Pi O and Jeong Yo decided to practise a four-hands piano piece together, bringing their intense rivalry closer into a fragile friendship. Pi O works hard on the performance to win approval from his strict grandfather, who tightly controls his life. Pi O helps Jeong Yo, who works through a severe emotional block and stage fright tied to a painful childhood memory involving a crowd. Also Read: Sanjay Dutt’s witty reply to Maharashtra minister’s ‘speak Marathi’ request goes viral | Watch In the third episode, a sudden problem hits right before Pi O and Jeong Yo are supposed to go on stage. Pi O steps up to make a hurried decision to save the performance. While the fix works, Pi O begins to worry he made a mistake because Jeong Yo's playing proves to be far more brilliant and overshadows him. Behind-the-scenes moments and tense encounters—including on the soccer field—show mounting pressure and unspoken rivalry between the two young musicians. Cracks show in Pi O's attitide as his self-doubt grows alongside his realisation that Jeong Yo might naturally be the better pianist.

In the latest episode, i.e., episode 4, Pi O, realises he has never truly played the piano for pure joy. Spending time with Jeong Yo brings laughter and a fresh perspective, giving Pi O the courage to push back against his manipulative and emotionally cold mother. Pi O's mother attempts to justify her harsh parenting by blaming his grandfather, but her lack of empathy and control freak nature continue to alienate Pi O. Meanwhile, shifting dynamics are teased with Jae In, who finds herself increasingly captivated by Jeong Yo's raw musical style. Jeong Yo's harsh reality crashes down on him. After confronting creditors, he discovers his father in a heartbreaking state and is forced to plead for mercy on his knees. Seeking to protect Jeong Yo from the dangerous loan sharks, who discover Pi O's wealthy background and see an opportunity to exploit it. Pi secretly steps in. When Jeong Yo wakes up to find Pi O gone, he answers a call on Pi O's phone from the loan shark and frantically rushes out into the night to save him.
What works?
The biggest strength of the show is undoubtedly its two leads, Song Kang and Lee Jun Young. Song Kang's Pi O is restrained, competitive and emotionally guarded, while Lee Jun Young gives Jeong-yo a more instinctive and vulnerable quality. Their contrasting personalities make their scenes together particularly engaging. Their relationship also works because the show doesn't immediately turn their rivalry into friendship. There is resentment, insecurity and competition before genuine trust begins to develop. Also Read: BB 20: Mahhi Vij's bossy side creates tension With Aman, Isha, Arishfa | Watch In addition, the music of the show is not just for decoration or some background music; it is one of the show's biggest advantages. The four hands in the show's title are a metaphor itself talking about the relationship. Two people with different strengths have to learn how to listen to each other, adjust their rhythm and stop trying to control everything themselves. Makers of Four Hands, Two Sonatas have released two episodes this week showcasing more depth of bond between Song Kang and Lee Jun Young. But how does a friendship that begins through music eventually turn into such intense discord? Will the obstacles dissolve, or will it separate them?

Also Read: The Chainsmokers concert: 14 hospitalised after medical emergency in San Jose Then introduces the characters and begins with Kang Pi O, a perfectionist driven by intense discipline, burdened by a pressurised single-parent upbringing, and entirely focused on winning the approval of his grandfather, a world-renowned conductor. The four hands in the show's title are a metaphor itself talking about the relationship. Two people with different strengths have to learn how to listen to each other, adjust their rhythm and stop trying to control everything themselves. The drama gives both protagonists personal reasons for behaving the way they do. What does not work do? The familiar school trope is probably the least fresh element so far. The idea of a talented student from a difficult background being targeted by privileged classmates is familiar territory in K-dramas. What exactly is comfort for you? Well, comfort or healing isn't an official K-drama trope or genre, but it is rather inbuilt within us to create a balance with the daily pressure and stress of the fast-paced life everyone is living in the modern world. Be it My Liberation Notes, Azure Spring or Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha or Reply 1988, few of these shows prioritise ordinary routines, emotional recovery, self-discovery, relationships and small moments of happiness over constant plot twists. Be it The Glory, When Life Gives You Tangerines, Extraordinary Attorney Woo or Search: WWW, South Korean dramas revolving around the female characters are increasingly being written with their own ambitions, flaws and emotional journeys. But, they are not simply defined by whom they love or whether they end up male lead. But in recent times, the formula has now become with women increasingly driving the story rather than simply being part of the love story.
Modern landscape of K-dramas featuring strong, independent women
Netflix's The Glory is perhaps one of the clearest examples of this shift. Moon Dong-eun, played by Song Hye-kyo, is not introduced as someone looking for love or validation. Her central motivation is revenge against the people who tormented her during school. Her journey is built around planning, survival and reclaiming control over her life. Romance exists in the series, but it does not define her character or determine the outcome of her story. The drama became a prominent example of how a woman can carry an emotionally intense series without being placed inside a conventional romantic narrative.

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, a fantasy-romance show, is about a young woman born with superhuman physical strength who fights local crime while navigating a quick romance. The drama follows her professional journey, the discrimination and misunderstandings she encounters and the ways she navigates relationships and independence. Korean television has increasingly placed women in positions traditionally dominated by male characters. This reversal is significant because the woman is no longer necessarily the character who needs to “level up” by marrying into wealth or status. She may already have the career, money, authority and ambition — and the romance becomes a relationship between equals. Another noticeable change is the way K-dramas portray relationships between women. South Korean drama My Bias, My Boss premiered this month on streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. The workplace romantic comedy series starring Kang Hoon, Cha Woo Min and Kim Hye Jun in lead roles has already caught the attention of netizens with their performance, including the storyline so far. The makers have released four episodes and have already revealed several twists. But, with how the three lives of main characters get intertwined, everyone is eager to witness it.
What has happened in the first four episodes of My Bias, My Boss?
In the first episode of My Bias, My Boss, a huge fan of Nam Da Reum (played by Kim Hye Jun) quits her boring job to work at the fashion startup Appello, hoping to be near her 12-year k-pop bias Lee Chan (played by Cha Woo Min). However, her dream is derailed when she clashes directly with Appello's prickly CEO Kang Ha Gi (played by Kang Hoon), whom she has already accidentally embarrassed prior to starting. Also Read: TWICE's Chaeyoung exits JYP Entertainment after Jeongyeon In episode 2, Lee Chan visits the Appello office as the fashion department director. Da Reum tries hard to win a spot on an upcoming foreign work trip to be near Chan, but her clumsy efforts to impress CEO Kang Ha-gi backfire, ramping up workplace chaos and misunderstandings. Da Reum has her first direct interaction with Chan when he spots her in the building, welcomes her to the company, and asks to shake her trembling hand. The drama gets plenty of comedy out of Da Reum's excitement and the gap between how she imagines idol life and what she actually experiences. The slow building of bond and relation between Da Reum and Ha Gi is definitely one of the strongest elements so far. Also Read: BTS members J-Hope, RM spark outrage over Chris Brown concert appearance

In addition, the interaction and the fantasy of workplace romance have added a new variety. The fashion and marketing-related episodes create opportunities for comedy, misunderstandings and interactions between the wider cast. The humour and exaggerated situations prevent the familiar CEO-and-employee setup from becoming too heavy.
What does not work?
The story can feel predictable, and the love-triangle setup needs more depth. A few of the encounters between Da Reum and Ha Gi rely on familiar k-drama coincidences. The central trio gets most of the attention, but some of the supporting characters have the potential to add more humour and conflict.
Final verdict
The first four episodes of My Bias, My Boss so far have showcased a feel-good romantic comedy rather than a deeply layered romance. Its biggest strengths are Kim Hye Jun's charming performance, the growing chemistry between the leads and the playful fangirl premise.

Also Read: BLACKPINK’s Lisa sparks dating rumours with Thai actor Blue Pongtiwat after reported break up with Frederic Arnault In addition, the k-drama reminds me of recently released shows See You at Work Tomorrow and Lovely Runner, with elements of idol-fan love and workplace romance.
