Reese Witherspoon is ready to revisit her iconic role in Legally Blonde, one that changed the course of her career (she’d agree). Reese and her Hello Sunshine company are planning on making a Legally Blonde spinoff for TV in the form of a series. The TV series will be inspired by the popular film franchise

Reportedly, it’s being written and will be made in portions so one offshoot is being written by Gossip Girl developers/executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. The duo are executive producing the project, whose premise is being kept under wraps. It is being produced by Hello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media; Fake Empire; and Amazon MGM Studios are producing.

The producers also plan to take it a step further and expand the Legally Blonde TV universe with a potential second spinoff series, which is still in preliminary stage.

Legally Blonde movie franchise had kickstarted with 2001 film. It was based on the novel by Amanda Brown and was written for screen by Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith. The film starred Reese Witherspoon as Harvard Law student Elle Woods. The film was an instant hit and made Reese a famous pop culture icon.

The sequel, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde followed in 2003 as well as 2009 direct-to-video spinoff Legally Blondes, which originated as a pilot for a potential series.

Legally Blonde 3, co-written by Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor, has been in the works for several years.
