Johnny Depp fans should enjoy this moment. After a long wait of years, the actor is set to return to Hollywood after eight years as Ebenezer Scrooge in a new horror-fantasy. At San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, Depp made a surprise appearance.
Directed by Ti West, the movie is set to release in theatres this November.

Depp is set to make a comeback to Hollywood screens with Ti West’s Gothic version of Charles Dickens’ character.
What makes it even more special is Depp’s appearance itself. This will mark the actor’s return to Hollywood since 2019. To promote the movie, the 63-year-old actor stepped out on the streets of San Diego dressed as Scrooge in front of the Gaslamp Quarter shop Scrooge and Marley.

Looking unrecognisable, Depp took on the character of the old man, walking outside the door wearing a black tuxedo with the hat and the stick in his hands.
He was not scheduled to appear at SDCC. But, he did during Collider’s “Directors on Directing” panel. After his appearance, a trailer for the film was released. This was Depp's first time at Comic-Con in nine years. His last appearance was in July 2018, when he promoted his Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

Ending with Depp’s line, “It’s Good to Be Back,” the trailer is deliciously haunting. Depp plays an old Scrooge who is terrorised by Christmas spirits that follow him through snowy streets, chasing him all season. Apart from Depp, the movie also stars Andrea Riseborough, Tramell Tillman,Ian McKellen andRupert Grint.
This would be Depp's first Hollywood outing after his much-publicised legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. Following the accusations she made public and the defamation case he initially lost, Warner Bros. asked the actor to step down from his Fantastic Beasts role. Not only that, but he also lost several other projects. While he had done work across the pond, he had maintained a distance from Hollywood.
