Many viewers on social media interpreted this as Salman’s response to Abhinav Kashyap’s ongoing accusations.

What did Abhinav Kashyap say?

Abhinav Kashyap, who directed Salman Khan’s 2010 blockbuster Dabangg, has repeatedly accused the actor and his family of harassment and of deliberately sidelining his career. In a recent podcast, he alleged that Salman not only took undue credit for Dabangg but also manipulated projects, including Tere Naam, where Abhinav claims his brother Anurag Kashyap was compelled to step away.

Also Read: Kajol, Rani Mukerji joined by Ayan Mukerji for family's Durga Puja celebrations

He further dismissed Salman’s praise for Anurag’s latest film Nishaanchi as nothing more than “chamchagiri” (sycophancy) aimed at silencing critics. Abhinav even went as far as to mock Salman’s physique, calling it “artificially enhanced” and “puffed up.” Abhinav also claimed attempts were made to “buy his silence” by luring him with high-end property offers.

Also Read: Rajat Bedi on daughter Vera being compared to Kareena Kapoor

Salman’s message to housemates and beyond

While Salman did not directly name Kashyap, his comments about people “wasting time on podcasts” seemed to be a sharp counter. He also motivated the contestants, saying, “Guys, nothing better than work. No matter how you’re feeling, no matter what you are going through- you’ve got to get up, take a shower, and land up at a job.”

Also Read: Kapil Sharma gets ₹1 crore extortion call; man from Kolkata arrested

Birthday surprise for Tanya Mittal

Amidst the tension, Salman lightened the mood by celebrating Tanya Mittal’s birthday. The contestant grew emotional as she received a throne-like chair inside the house. Tanya wished that Salman would become “like family” to her in Mumbai so she would never feel unsafe.

Bigg Boss 19 airs on Colors TV and streams on JioCinema.

Besides Tanya Mittal's birthday celebration, Bigg Boss 19 has gained attention of the fans due to Salman Khan's indirect reply to Abhinav Kashyap who criticized the actor in recent interviews and podcasts.

The latest Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 19 had its fair share of emotions and subtle drama. While Salman Khan made contestant Tanya Mittal’s birthday memorable with a royal ‘singhasan’ gift inside the house, the host also dropped remarks that many believe were aimed at filmmaker Abhinav Kashyap, who has been openly criticising him in recent interviews and podcasts. Salman Khan’s indirect dig During his interaction with the housemates, Salman spoke about people from his past who now target him publicly. Without naming anyone, the superstar said, “Jo sab mere saath attach huye hai ya huye the, aajkal unki bhi baj rahi hai. Baithe-baithe log kuch bhi and-sand bol rahe hain jinse mera talluk raha hai, aur jinhone kabhi meri tareef ki hai. Ab, they don’t quite like me anymore. Aajkal log podcast me aake utpatang baatein karte hai kyunki unke paas koi kaam nahi hai. His comic timing is impeccable, and his performance feels so real and effortless that it never feels that he's performing a character - it’s just Raghav being Raghav - authentic, natural, and hilarious.

Released on Sept 18, the satirical show has been making noise ever since for its performances, dialogues, and cameos.

Aryan Khan, the son of superstar Shah Rukh Khan, took his first step into the industry as a director and has proven his talent with the prolific work in Netflix show The Ba***ds of Bollywood. Released on Sept 18, the satirical show has been making noise ever since for its performances, dialogues, and cameos. While the seven-episode season got a stunning response from the critics and audience alike, it has now been revealed that the second season of the series is in the works. Aryan Khan’s The Ba***ds of Bollywood Season 2 is in the works. The news about a second season being in development has been circulating for some time. However, actor Rajat Bedi has now confirmed it. Rajat, who portrays Jaraj Saxena in the show, stated that the second season is indeed in progress. During a conversation, Rajat said, “Yes, season two is happening. It’s in the works. I’m hopeful that audiences are going to see more of me in the second season.” Recalling the story of how he was cast in the show, he said, “One day, I got a surprise call from a colleague that Aryan is looking for me. I was in Canada at that time. Aryan’s office got in touch with him and he told me that Aryan wants to meet me. I rushed to Mumbai. I remember the date also. It was December 21-22, 2022. Aryan came to receive me. He was very nervous about meeting me. He was planning for days about what he wants to talk to me.” In the show, Bedi plays the character of actor Jaraj Saxena, who is struggling to make a comeback. Bedi's character in the show has garnered a positive response. Apart from Bedi, the Ba***ds of Bollywood stars Bobby Deol, Lakshya, Raghav Juyal, Sahher Bambba, Manoj Pahwa, Gautami Kapoor, Mona Singh, and Anya Singh. Apart from the series regulars, the show has cameo appearances by Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, SS Rajamouli and many others. The Ba***ds of Bollywood review WION's Pragati Awasthi called Aryan Khan's show fun. In this show, Aryan has done a superb job when it comes to how smartly he presented the greyer shades of the industry through biting sarcasm on stardom, politics, media, and the eternal struggles of showbiz. The series comes through someone who has lived and breathed this world. That said, the accurate screenplay and the barrage of cameos do tend to overshadow the script, which stumbles at several points. When it comes to performances, it was Raghav Juyal who gave a standout performance. He was the real fun, and most of the credit goes to him. The scene where he sings for Emraan Hashmi, who appears as an intimacy instructor, will have you in splits. His comic timing is impeccable, and his performance feels so real and effortless that it never feels that he's performing a character - it’s just Raghav being Raghav - authentic, natural, and hilarious.

Released on Sept 18, Aryan Khan's show is a bold satire on tinsel town with a fictional story of an outsider becoming a superstar and getting stuck in this life of showbiz.

In Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, Vishal Jethwa and Ishaan Khatter play Chandan and Shoaib, childhood buddies from the marginalized section of society, who are acutely aware of their social status and desperate to earn the respect and validation they rightfully deserve. Early in the film, we are told that Chandan hides his caste identity. Desperate to break generational discrimination, both Chandan and Shoaib apply for Police jobs, but instead of opting for the reservation quota, Chandan applies in the general category. When a perturbed Shoiab questions his move, Chandan admits that he is scared to reveal his caste lest he be thrown again into doing menial jobs. That moment sets the tone of Homebound. A film about two young men who try honest means to get jobs and earn the respect of society, but society constantly fails them, ridicules them, and never allows them to shine.

Having impressed international audiences at various film festivals earlier this year, Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound comes home and hits Indian screens this Friday. Based on journalist Basharat Peer's article in The New York Times titled ‘Taking Amrit Home’, Ghaywan flips the narrative and begins the story a few years before COVID-19 crippled the country, especially scores of daily wage labourers during the lockdown.

A story of discrimination

Chandan Kumar enjoys privileges at home while his parents toil as labourers, and his sister works in a local school as an assistant. While his sister has not had the privilege to study, his mother is hopeful of Chandan’s future and wants him to complete his graduation while he awaits results for the Police constable job, which for him is a getaway to a respectful life and a better future for his family.

His childhood friend Shoaib, who was discriminated for his religion all his life, is far more practical. Awaiting results, he knows he has responsibilities at home and takes care of ailing parents. Having rejected an opportunity to go to Dubai to work, Shoaib finds a job in a company selling water purifiers in the city. He is sharp and soon learns the ropes of marketing, even though he doesn’t have the required degrees but prejudices around his religion constantly hamper his growth.

Fed up with the constant discrimination that they face daily and growing concerns of financial crisis at home, the two friends are forced to seek a job in Surat, 1200 km away from their home. As the two settle in, COVID-19 grips the country, and a lockdown is imposed. The two now crave to go back home, to their family but their journey is hindered at multiple points.

Homebound's subtle messaging

Films on caste and religion-based discrimination have been made before in India. But what works for Homebound is the subtle messaging. At no point does the film feel preachy. It's unassuming in its ways yet poignant and hard-hitting. These are men whom we have known, working as support staff at homes, at work, but perhaps have never spoken to much. These are people who help us in keeping our homes safe, keeping our homes in order, helping us at work, yet we know so little about them.

Homebound doesn’t say anything that we don’t know already. Indian society may have evolved in many ways, yet caste and religion-based discrimination are still very much part of its fabric. And we are all party to it. A casual joke on religion, on one’s connection with a neighbouring country, a sly way of demarcating plates and glasses for the house help, separate seats for them – no matter how much we deny, the rampant discrimination is there in the society. Ghaywan, with dialogue writers Varun Grover and Shreedhar Dubey, also highlights the frustration on the other side- the general category. On realising his Dalit identity, Chandan is told by a government official how he and his kind get the best seats and a comfortable life, and people belonging to the general category are left with crumbs. The lopsided system, which enables a few to get empowered but leaves scores behind, is so beautifully highlighted in the film.

Homebound also tragically brings back memories of COVID-19 and the kind of chaos it brought with it in the first phase of lockdown. So many were left homeless, so many people died in scorching heat on their way back home, on foot, desperate to return to their homeland with barely any money in hand.

Brilliant performances

Ghaywan’s casting is on point, and both Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa stun in their respective roles. Jethwa plays the vulnerable Chandan, who knows the shortcomings but is also hopeful of a better future. Khatter plays the practical Shoaib, who is sharp and knows his way around, yet keeps faltering due to his identity as a Muslim man. Shalini Vatsa as Chandan’s mother is also well cast and Janhvi Kapoor as Sudha plays a girl with big dreams well. Janhvi’s Sudha befriends Chandan and inspires him to do better in life, but she also uses him as an agency for a better future together.

Both Ishaan and Vishal emote pain and resilience through their eyes as Shoaib and Chandan.

Ghaywan, in his past works like Masaan and Geeli Pucchi, has brilliantly showcased the Dalit community and problems they face in an ever-evolving country like India. With Homeland, he takes the conversation further without completely spelling it out. It is made evident through the story, in Chandan’s heartbreak and Shoaib’s hardships, in Sudha’s big dreams.

Homebound ultimately shows a mirror and stays with you long after the film is over. It makes you tear up, it makes you want to root for the two men, and it makes you think hard.

Homebound is now in theatres.

Neeraj Ghaywan's Homebound leaves a lump in your throat and makes you think hard long after the film is over. The film has terrific performances by its lead actors, Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa and its subtle yet clear messaging on the glaring discrimination in our society.
