R Madhavan was honoured with the Padma Shri by President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday (June 23) at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.

The second batch of Padma Awards 2026 was conferred during the ceremony, which was held in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, among others.

Madhavan is a well-known Indian actor with a career spanning more than two decades. The actor has performed in several iconic movies and played several roles that defined his career across languages.

For the big day, the actor wore a royal blue suit and was seen happily walking towards the point where PM Modi was sitting with other dignitaries. he greeted him and went on to touch his feet, when PM Modi stopped him.

Madhavan's wife, Sarita Birje, and son, Vedaant Madhavan, were present to support him.
In the video, the actor's wife and son were seen clapping for the actor as he walked towards the President to receive the honour.

For his immense contribution in the field of Art and the entertainment world, Madhavan has been honoured with Padma Shri, which is the fourth-highest civilian award in India, following the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, and Padma Bhushan.

The awards were announced on the eve of Republic Day. Accepting the award, Madhavan expressed gratitude in a post earlier and wrote, “I accept the Padma Shri with profound gratitude and humility. This honour, bestowed upon me, is beyond my wildest dreams, and I receive it on behalf of my entire family, whose constant support and faith have been my greatest strength. This recognition is possible only because of the blessings of my mentors, the goodwill of my well-wishers, the love and encouragement of the public, and above all, the grace of the Almighty. Each of them has played an invaluable role in shaping my journey and guiding me toward this moment."

A total of 65 people from different fields of society are being felicitated, and in the field of art and entertainment, the people who are being honoured are: Mammootty, Alka Yagnik, and posthumously, Satish Shah. Earlier in the ceremony on May 25, Dharmendra was conferred with a posthumous Padma Vibhushan.
