Aamir Khan's son Junaid Khan is making his Bollywood debut in Yash Raj Films' period drama Maharaj. The first look of the film was shared on social media on Wednesday (May 29). The poster features Junaid Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat as they don strikingly different looks.
Helmed by Siddharth P Malhotra, who had earlier made Hichki, the film will stream on Netflix from June 14. The period drama is said to be based on true events.
Taking to Instagram with the poster, Director Siddharth P Malhotra shared, “The fight for the truth between a powerful man and a fearless journalist. Based on true events - Maharaj is releasing on 14 June, only on Netflix! My next film as a director please give it all the love”
Earlier, describing the project, Malhotra had shared that the film is set in the 1800s. "It is a film that shows the resilience of the human spirit and how a common man could wield the courage to help people around him and thus, help society at large. Get set to get mesmerized into a world of horse-drawn carriages, old-school printing presses, kaccha roads, beautiful traditions and a man’s willpower to do good. We are beyond thrilled to present Maharaj which is set to stream exclusively on Netflix, the world’s biggest streaming platform. A story like this will resonate to audiences globally and Netflix is the perfect platform to take our story to the world," he mentioned in the post.

Apart from Junaid Khanand Jaideep Ahlawat, the film also features Sharvari Wagh and Shalini Pandey in pivotal roles. The film has been written by Vipul Mehta and Sneha Desai (who wrote Laapataa Ladies).
In the poster, Jaideep is seen in a King's get-up, with his lavish palace as the backdrop. Meanwhile, Junaid in contrast to him has a newspaper in the background that reads, “Supreme Court Of Bombay.” The theme of the poster suggests that the two will be clashing with each other in the film.
The historic period drama is based on the 1862 Maharaja Libel Case and is helmed by Siddharth P Malhotra and backed by Aditya Chopra.
