Aamir Khan went down memory lane and spoke about his debut film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak during an event in Mumbai on Monday. Aamir launched the song Papa Kehte Hai 2.0 from the film Srikanth at the event. The song originally from QSQT was sung by Udit Narayan. The new version of the song features Rajkummar Rao.
Singer Udit Narayan was also part of the event on Monday where Aamir recalled how Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak's cast and crew were all new.
What Aamir Khan and Udit Narayan said about the iconic song
Aamir recalled at the event that Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was not just his first film, but also ofmany others, including co-star Juhi Chawla, music composers Anand-Milind, singers Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, director Mansoor Khan, and many of the crew members. Aamir said he felt unsure of the film and saw “only the flaws” when he watched it withMansoor Khan later.
“But one day it released and it was wonderful to see the journey it had. I like to believe Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak is a milestone in Indian cinema. From 1988 onwards, you can see the shift happening,” he added.
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was directed by Aamir's cousin Mansoor Khan and produced by his uncle, the legendary filmmaker Nasir Hussain.
Singer Udit Narayan also recalled that he wanted to go back home when asked to sing for Aamir back then. “36 years ago they introduced me to Aamir and said that I have to sing a song for him. I was scared and I was ready to go back home if the song didn’t work," he said.
Aamir joked that Udit may have wondered if Aamir was an actor.
The original song was picturised on Aamir Khan. The popularity of the song and the film catapulted Aamir Khan to stardom.

He said, "I found Srikanth Bolla's story very inspiring. Born in a very poor family, how he achieved so much in his life, that he established a million-dollar company. Apart from that, he is also visually impaired. I have never played such a role, so it was very challenging for me. I felt that it would take a lot of fear to do it, but when you feel fear, you will enjoy it."
Srikanth is directed by Tushar Hiranandani and written by Jagdeep Sidhu and Sumit Purohit. Srikanth is slated to have a theatrical release on May 10, 2024.
