Deepika Padukone is not part of Brahmastra 2, clarifies her team

Deepika Padukone is not associated with Brahmastra 2, contrary to what the rumour mills are stating. The actor’s team has shared a statement dismissing all speculation around her casting in the sequel to Ayan Mukerji’s film.

Brahmastra starred Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan. Deepika Padukone had a small cameo in the film, playing Ranbir Kapoor’s character Shiva’s mother. The sequel is reportedly going to narrate Shiva’s parents’ love story. Naturally, most had assumed that the film would feature Deepika Padukone in the central role.

What did Deepika’s team say?

The official spokesperson of Deepika stated, “All recent reports of Deepika Padukone being a part of Brahmastra 2 or associated with the project in any capacity are untrue.”

Brahmastra marked the beginning of a big-budget fantasy adventure franchise. Brahmastra follows Shiva (Ranbir), who sets out on a journey to find the origins of his special powers with Isha (Alia), a woman he falls in love with at first sight.

The film, which earned over ₹400 crore at the worldwide box office, was one of the major commercial successes of the Hindi film industry during the pandemic. In April 2023, Ayan had announced that the two sequels of Brahmastra will be "bigger and more ambitious than Part One".

What Ranbir said about the sequel

In a chat with fans in 2023, Ranbir had confirmed that Brahmastra 2 was in the development stage. He said, “So Brahmastra 2 is heavy into writing. We are working on it all the time, it was just last week that Ayan narrated the film to me. Ayan has gone ten times bigger than part 1, his idea, his thought, the characters. He is working on War 2 right now, so the plan is to finish War 2 by mid next year and we start shooting hopefully by end of next year, or the beginning of next to next year. But definitely there's a lot of work which is already happening on the film in the writing process. ”

The actor had also addressed the criticism that the part 1 had faced and ensured that the team had taken note of it.

"We have really understood the kind of criticism we got for the film. What worked for it and what didn't work for it. So we want to put everything into consideration. From the dialogues or people saying that Shiva and Isha's chemistry was somewhere missing... There was a lot of criticism that was constructive so we are taking that into our stride, and trying to understand that and kind of go beyond that,” the actor had said.

Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva released in theatres on September 9, 2022. It also featured Nagarjuna, Mouni Roy, and Shah Rukh Khan among others.

Meanwhile, Deepika will be seen next in King, co-starring Shah Rukh Khan. She also has Atlee-Allu Arjun’s Raaka in the pipeline.
