India clinched a dramatic five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup final, chasing down 147 in the last over of a tense clash at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday (Sep 28). But just as fans celebrated another memorable win over their arch-rivals, the post-match presentation took a shocking turn. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Mohsin Naqvi abruptly left the ground with the Asia Cup trophy after Indian players refused to accept the trophy and medals from him. While off-field events grabbed headlines, former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin roasted Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf, claiming he helped the "Men in Blue' to win the continental tournament.
Ashwin’s Dig at Rauf: ‘Thanks to Him, We Won Easily’
“Thanks to Haris Rauf, we won the match easily. Tilak soaked up the pressure brilliantly. He handled both pace and spin, adjusted to the pitch, and picked his shots smartly. IND vs WI: Gautam Gambhir arrives in Ahmedabad days after Asia Cup final, sets sights on West Indies series

I often go back to that magical evening of June 25, 1983, when India’s fearless band of brothers lifted the World Cup at Lord’s. I was barely 10 years old, but the images of the players running with stumps and bails, including Mohinder Amarnath, who also won the Man of the Match in both the semi-final and the final; and of the team holding that gleaming trophy aloft, are etched in my mind forever. For me, it was not just a cricket match - it was a revelation. That win told an entire generation of young Indians that dreams need not be constrained by boundaries. The stories from that campaign, like Kapil paaji’s legendary 175 against Zimbabwe - a knock that might not have been televised but is immortalized, are etched in our memory as folklore. That innings was not just about runs; it was about belief. It told every boy in the gullies of Mumbai or villages of Punjab that aspiration could be limitless. It certainly shaped my own journey. Four years later, in 1987, I was a ball boy at the Wankhede Stadium when India lost to England in the semi-final. Standing on the sidelines that day, watching heroes up close, I resolved that one day I too would wear that India jersey. Now, nearly four decades later, I sense that women’s cricket in India stands on the cusp of its own watershed moment. The upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup will not just be about chasing a trophy; it will be about igniting countless dreams. It was not just an innings; it was a statement. The sheer audacity of her strokeplay, the clarity of her mind, and the courage in her heart took women’s cricket in India into a new orbit. The Australian women’s ODI cricket team is all set to begin their title defence in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025. The Kangaroos, led by Alyssa Healy, will take on New Zealand in their opening match on Wednesday (Oct 1) at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. This match is a repeat of the final from the last World Cup, where Australia defeated New Zealand. Ahead of the opening, Healy reflected on the World Cup, preparation for the matches and her dream.
Healy Focused on Leadership
Healy, who played a key role in Australia’s win in the 2022 World Cup, is now leading the team. Women's ODI World Cup 2025: Afghanistan's exiled women's team to attend IND vs SL opener

The 2025 Asia Cup was about everything but cricket. Although the two heavyweights played out a nervy final in Dubai, cricket is not what anyone seems to talk about. Why so? Perhaps due to the controversies that marred this edition of the continental event. No one even cared about this eight-team tournament until the BCCI and its counterpart (the PCB) agreed to play together despite recent heightened cross-border tensions. India retaliated to the Pahalgam terror attack with Operation Sindoor a fortnight later, neutralising terrorists and their camps across PoK and Pakistan in precise air strikes, almost leading to a war-like situation. Although a mutual understanding between the two nuclear powers defused the usage of weapons, their relationship turned worse, with India cutting all diplomatic ties with Pakistan. England all-rounder Chris Woakes announced his international retirement via social media post on Monday (Sep 29). Woakes, who made headlines during India’s final away Test in the UK for coming out to bat (at no. 11) despite a broken shoulder, called time on his 15-year career. After facing a snub from England's away Ashes squad, with ECB managing director Robert Key also admitting not having him in his plans, the all-rounder decided to step aside. Woakes' final appearance for England was full of heroics, as he walked to loud cheers from the Oval crowd early on day five of the final Test against India; he, however, failed to save his team from a loss as India clinched the thriller to level the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy (2-2). Also read | Chaos in Asia Cup Final: Relive THAT one hour which snatched all attention away from cricket "The moment has come, and I've decided that the time is right for me to retire from international cricket," he said on his Instagram post. "Playing for England was something I aspired to do since I was a kid dreaming in the back garden, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have lived out those dreams. Representing England, wearing the Three Lions and sharing the field with teammates over the last 15 years, many of whom have become lifelong friends, are things I'll look back on with the greatest pride.” Since making his England debut in 2011, Woakes represented his team across formats, winning two World Cups, including the 2019 home ODI WC and England’s second T20 WC three years later in Australia. While he led the pace attack in the 2019 edition, he was the senior-most seamer in his team for the T20 WC in Australia, playing a crucial role in helping England taste success. "Making my debut in 2011 in Australia seems like yesterday, but time flies when you're having fun. Lifting two World Cups and being part of some amazing Ashes series is something I never thought was possible, and those memories and celebrations with my teammates will stay with me forever. "To my Mum and Dad, my wife Amie and our girls Laila and Evie, thank you for your unwavering love, support and sacrifices over the years. None of this would have been possible without you. "To the fans, especially the Barmy Army, thank you for the passion, the cheers and the belief. To my coaches, team-mates and everyone behind the scenes, both with England and Warwickshire, who helped me play for my country - your guidance and friendship has meant the world. "I look forward to continuing to play county cricket and exploring more franchise opportunities in the near future."

Meanwhile, Woakes finished his career with 62 Tests, 122 ODIs, and 33 T20Is to his name, picking up 396 international wickets.

England’s Chris Woakes calls time on international career after Ashes snub

Team India won the 2025 Asia Cup final against Pakistan, beating them by five wickets in Dubai on Sunday evening (Sep 28). Rinku Singh, playing his first game of the tournament, hit the winning runs as the Men in Blue clinched a victory in this nervy final with two balls remaining. However, what transpired after that stole all the attention as cricket seemed to have lost its place in line. Drama, chaos, boos, cheers and everything beyond marred a classic India vs Pakistan final, attracting a billion eyeballs and little embarrassment to the Men in Green. That one hour after Rinku’s one-ball heroics, plenty happened both on and off the field. While the winning team rushed to the dugout to celebrate with their teammates and the support staff, the dejected Pakistani side walked straight to their dressing room, locking themselves in. The Indian players, present at the ground, enjoyed their time taking selfies while giving interviews to the broadcasters, whereas there was no sign of the Salman Agha-led side coming out, leading to a delay in the presentation ceremony. However, it all began when the Indian Team denied receiving the coveted Asia Cup trophy from the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, who also happens to be the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and an interior minister in the serving Pakistani government. The Indian fans in attendance booed him and the Pakistani players, who walked towards the stage to receive their runners-up medals. Chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ echoed across the Dubai International Stadium, with Salman hogging little attention by rudely throwing away the runners-up cheque. Following the mandatory announcements and prize distributions, with Indian opener Abhishek Sharma also receiving his Player of the Tournament award, presenter Simon Doull informed everyone about Team India’s decision not to collect their Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi tonight. "Ladies and gentlemen, I have been informed by the Asian Cricket Council that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. So that does conclude the post-match presentation," informs Simon Doull at the post-match presentation. Meanwhile, the Indian Team patiently waited to collect the trophy, even with a champion placard being brought twice (by the groundsmen), only for it to be taken back. Moments later, Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya walked towards the podium (after Naqvi left the stage with the trophy without handing it over to the Indian Team), with his teammates joining him. The Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav also did a slow-mo celebration (without a trophy), inspired by former WWE champion Ric Flair’s walk, which Rohit also did after the Champions Trophy triumph.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi reacted to the victory by calling it "OperationSindoor on the games field", Union minister Kiran Rijiju reacted to pacer Jasprit Bumrah's now-viral 'plane down' gesture. Taking to his x handle Rijiju hailed India's victory against it arch rival and bashed the Men in Green saying, "Pakistan deserves this punishment." What happened during the match Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah gave a ‘fighter jet’ send-off to Haris Rauf after breaking his off stump during the final of the Asia Cup. In the 18th over, Bumrah clean bowled Rauf off a searing Yorker; after which he gave the Pakistani seamer a taste of his own medicine. During this innings, Rauf had scored just six runs, including a lucky boundary off an edge earlier in the same over. Bumrah's gesture came after Rauf during the the Super Four match between the two teams a few days earlier, had mocked Indian fans by making a controversial 'war-related' gesture, rekindling the tensions between the two countries. Why the hostilities between both teams? Early in April this year, several Pakistani-based terrorists killed 26 innocent lives in broad daylight in India’s Kashmir in the most barbaric attack on Indian soil since the 2019 Pulwama bombing. India retaliated with Operation Sindoor a fortnight later, neutralising countless terror camps across PoK and Pakistan in precise air strikes, leading to heightened cross-border tensions. Although a mutual agreement led to a ceasefire, the Indian government cut all diplomatic ties with Pakistan; the two countries and their respective boards, however, agreed to honour multi-team commitments, resulting in India and Pakistan sharing the same group and playing thrice in the 2025 Asia Cup. India defended their Asia Cup title in Dubai on Sunday (Sep 28) by beating arch-rivals Pakistan by five wickets. But what caught the imagination of cricket fans across the world was the controversy that erupted after the win. During the presentation ceremony India refused to collect the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) head Mohsin Naqvi, who also happens to be the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). India still celebrates victory What unfolded later was even more interesting. Naqvi, instead of leaving the trophy at the presentation ceremony venue for India to celebrate, walked away with it.

However, this did not deter the spirit of Men in Blue from celebrating their win against their cricketing foe Pakistan. Indian players stood next to the empty stage, with captain Suryakumar Yadav playfully pretending to hold the trophy as the team celebrated the victory. Later, on social media, Team India mocked the fiasco with multiple players including Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, posting victory photos on Instagram with trophy emojis edited into the frames. Where is the trophy and what is the norm? Usually, after the final match of the series, the trophy is presented to the winning team for celebrations. And after the team has finished with its victory celebrations like clicking pictures with it and taking videos and giving photo opportunities to the media present there and the sponsors, the trophy remains with the team for a while. Later, it is handed to the federation of the country that has won the trophy, in this case to the BCCI. But with India refusing to collect the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Council (PCB) head Mohsin Naqvi, who walked away with it after the snub by Suryakumar Yadav and his team, it is not clear yet where the trophy is. But following the norms it has to be handed to the BCCI.

IND vs PAK: Indian Team walks off the field without handshakes after nervy final

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauds the Men in Blue for their record ninth Asia Cup title on Sunday (Sep 28) in Dubai. India beat Pakistan by five wickets in a nervy final to complete a hat-trick of wins over their arch-rivals in this edition, with PM Modi also mentioning how it is similar to India's win in Operation Sindoor. With plenty happening in the background surrounding these two nations, India and Pakistan facing off in this eight-team tournament was the biggest talking point; however, after both governments and their respective boards agreed to play each other, it all boiled down to on-field cricket, with Team India prevailing on all occasions. Taking to his social media handles, PM Modi posted, “#OperationSindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same - India wins! Meanwhile, following the Pahalgam terror attack in India’s Kashmir early this year, where Pakistani-based terrorists killed 26 innocent lives in the most barbaric attack on Indian soil since the 2019 Pulwama bombing, India retaliated with Operation Sindoor a fortnight later. A series of precise air strikes that neutralised countless terror camps across PoK and Pakistan led to escalating cross-border tensions between both countries. Also read | Asia Cup Final: Social media erupts in joy as Tilak Varma-inspired India beat Pakistan to clinch title Although the Indian government severed all diplomatic ties with Pakistan, the BCCI and PCB agreed to honour their international commitments, with cricket getting underway in a hybrid model. While India emerged victorious by seven wickets in their first face-off since the Pahalgam terror attack, they also stood tall in their second head-to-head tie in this tournament in the Super Fours. In the grand finale, Team India was again successful in beating Pakistan, inflicting a five-wicket defeat on Salman Agha’s side.
What happened in the final?
India won the toss and elected to bowl first. Unlike on the past two occasions, the Pakistani openers got off to a brilliant start, with Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman stitching an 84-run stand for the first wicket. Although Farhan completed his second fifty against India, none of the remaining batters provided any support as Pakistan lost their last nine wickets for just 33 runs. Crumbling under pressure, they got all out on 146 inside 20 overs. India, on the other hand, got off to an unlikely start, losing three wickets inside the Powerplay, with the top three returning cheaply. The middle-order, however, saved India’s grace, with Tilak leading from the front and helping his team cross the winning line.
