ICC fines Suryakumar Yadav and Haris Rauf, warns Sahibzada Farhan for aggressive celebrations against India

Ace Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was involved in a Twitter banter with former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif over the pacer's new bowling role under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy during the Asia Cup 2025. It all started when Kaif made a cricketing observation on how Bumrah has been used differently in the tournament. He pointed out that Bumrah has been bowling three overs upfront in the powerplay, instead of saving some for the death overs. According to Kaif, this could be risky for India, especially in crucial matches like the Asia Cup final against Pakistan. Kaif said that during Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, Bumrah usually bowled in the 1st, 13th, 17th, and 19th overs. However, under Surya’s leadership, he is finishing most of his spell early in the innings.

Bumrah under Rohit would generally bowl overs 1, 13, 17, 19. Under Surya, in Asia cup, he bowled a three-overs spell at the start. He warned that this strategy could make things easier for opponents in the final overs. Bumrah didn’t stay silent. He replied sharply on X with a four-word post: “Inaccurate before, inaccurate again” along with a thumbs-up emoji. His response quickly went viral.

Inaccurate before inaccurate again 👍🏾 https://t.co/knkjXOGOKb— Jasprit Bumrah (@Jaspritbumrah93) September 25, 2025

Now, Kaif has responded to Bumrah’s comment, calling it a simple cricket observation, not a criticism. In a message on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, “Please take this as a cricketing observation from a well-wisher and an admirer. You are India cricket’s biggest match-winner, and I know what it takes to give it all when on the field wearing India colours.” Kaif also praised Bumrah, calling him a key asset and India's biggest match-winner.

Bumrah and Kaif in Twitter banter over India’s bowling strategy in Asia Cup final

Kaif added that this change might be due to Bumrah trying to avoid injuries by bowling when his body is still warmed up. He warned that this strategy could make things easier for opponents in the final overs.

Asia Cup Final: ‘Just break their…,’ Shoaib Akhtar tells Pakistan how to beat India

Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson’s message to his team ahead of the marquee Asia Cup final against arch-rivals India is clear - concentrate on cricket, and try to keep the heavyweight Indian Team under pressure for the longest time. Pakistan reached the summit clash of this eight-team tournament following their nervy win over Bangladesh in their last Super Four match in Dubai on Thursday (Sep 25). Pakistani bowlers made merry while defending a low total, restricting Bangladesh 11 runs shy of 136 inside 20 overs, and with that, sealing their second win in this advanced stage. Watching things unfold in front of him, Hesson warned the defending champions ahead of the first-ever Asia Cup final between the two countries. Amid escalating tensions, India and Pakistan will face off for the third time in this T20 edition of the continental tournament, with the Men in Blue winning twice previously. While India clinched an easy seven-wicket win in their Group Stage tie, they emerged victorious by six wickets in their last outing in the Super Fours. With three days to prepare for the marquee India game, Pakistan’s head coach Hesson urged players to play their best cricket and avoid making controversial gestures, some of which made headlines lately. "Look, my message to the players is just focus on cricket, and that certainly we will be doing. In terms of gestures, there has always been passion in terms of high-pressure games," Hesson said. "We have to be good enough to put India under pressure for longer because there is a reason why they are ranked the top side in the world. We have to put them under pressure, and that will be our challenge." Looking back at the two India games, Hesson acknowledged opener Abhishek Sharma’s impact at the top, while also mentioning how Pakistan put up an improved show in the second outing despite the result. "I think the way we played against India in the last match was a huge step up from the first game," he continued. "The first game was a bit passive; we allowed India to control the game. For the first time in 17 editions of the Asia Cup, India and Pakistan will meet in a final.

The last match we had that game by the scruff of the neck for long periods, and it took an exceptional innings from Abhishek Sharma that took the game away from us." Sounding optimistic about doing well against India, Hesson said his team has worked hard to deserve a chance to play the final and win a trophy. "We have deserved this opportunity, so it's now up to us to make the most of it. We have been trying to be in a position to win the trophy,” he concluded. Meanwhile, India and Sri Lanka will face off in the last Super Four game of the Asia Cup 2025 on Friday (Sep 26).

‘Deserving’ Pakistan ready for India challenge in first-ever Asia Cup final: Mike Hesson

With this win, Bangladesh joined Sri Lanka in getting knocked out of the tournament. Meanwhile, India and Sri Lanka will face off in the final Super Four match on Friday (Sep 26) in Dubai. The result of this time will not affect the points table standings. After losing to India on Wednesday, tired and clueless Bangladesh faced Pakistan the very next day in Dubai, only to fall shy of a moderate target (136) by 11 runs. India on Thursday (September 25) announced the 15-member squad for the two-match home Test series against West Indies. This will be India's second Test series of the WTC 2025-27 after previously drawing the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy in England 2-2. The squad saw major changes as veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been named as the new vice-captain in place of Rishabh Pant, who is still recovering from a toe injury he picked up during the England tour. However, the biggest talking point was the exclusion of Karun Nair. After returning to the Test side earlier this year following an eight-year gap, Nair has now been dropped again. Also read | Asia Cup 2025: How the ‘ring of fire’ lighting in Dubai is impacting India’s fielding performance
Karun Nair out once again
BCCI's chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, shared the reason behind the decision. Nair played four Tests during the England tour and scored 205 runs at an average of 25.62. He also hit a half-century in the final Test of the series, which India won by just six runs. Speaking about the call to drop him, Agarkar was quoted as saying to ANI, “I mean obviously, frankly, we expected a little bit more from him, he has played four Tests. We have spoken about one innings. As the way it is, I mean, we feel Padikkal (Devdutt) offers a little bit more at this point, and I wish we could have given everyone 15 or 20 Tests. The biggest talking point was the exclusion of Karun Nair. After returning to the Test side earlier this year following an eight-year gap, Nair has now been dropped again.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way.” Agarkar supported the selection of Devdutt Padikkal, who has been showing good form lately. “He has been in the Test squad.
