Rahul Dravid received a hero's welcome and a guard of honour from young kids at a local cricket academy in Bengaluru after India's historic T20 World Cup triumph. Under Dravid's coaching, Rohit Sharma-led India won the recently-concluded T20 WC 2024 edition, held in West Indies and the USA. It was Dravid's last assignment as India head coach, since taking over in late 2021. Following India's T20 WC run, where they were unbeaten in the 20-nation mega event, Dravid-led support staff and Rohit-led national side have been receiving roaring response from the countrymen. The clip of Dravid's recent welcome at a cricket academy went viral.

Under Dravid, India had a good run from late 2021 to mid-2024. During his coaching tenure, India reached the 2022 T20 WC semifinals and the WTC 2023 and 2023 ODI World Cup finals as well. However, the Indian team ended their 11-year-long ICC title drought in this year's T20 WC and also ensured the end of Dravid's term on a high. In addition, the Men in Blue won the 2023 Asia Cup (ODIs) while also winning home Test series versus Australia and England.

While there were some ups and downs, Dravid has been hailed for nurturing India's younger lot and building a flexible and dynamic white-ball Indian team along with captain Rohit.

It is rumoured that Dravid will be succeeded by Gautam Gambhir. BCCI is expected to make the official announcement on India head coach later this month.
