India beat Zimbabwe by 42 runs in the final T20I of the five-match series on Sunday (Jul 14) to wrap a 4-1 victory. After losing the first match of the series, India bounced back emphatically under Shubman Gill to win next four matches.
Chasing a modest 168, Zimbabwe were rocked early as they lost two wickets inside three overs with Mukesh Kumar taking both of them.
Tadiwanashe Marumani (27) and Dion Myers (34) then added 44 runs for the third wicket before Washington Sundar broke the partnership in the ninth over.
Myers was dismissed four overs later while skipper Sikandar Raza departed quickly after, thanks to a throw by Player of the Match Shivam Dube.
With scoreboard reading 87/5 in 13.4 overs, Zimbabwe lost two more wickets for the next seven runs which effectively sealed the game for India.
Faraz Akram then hit 27 off 13 to delay India's win for a bit but Zimbabwe eventually got all out for 125 in 18.3 overs. Mukesh Kumar picked 4/22 for India while Dube scalped two wickets.
Earlier, India lost the toss and was asked to bat first. Zimbabwe handed early jolts to India as they sent back Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma inside powerplay.
Sanju Samson then held the innings together with Riyan Parag as the duo added 65 runs for the fourth wicket. Parag (22) was eventually dismissed in the 15th over with India just past 100.
After Samson got out three overs later after scoring a brilliant 58, Dube (26 off 12) and Rinku Singh gave India impetus in the final overs. The T20 World Cup winners eventually posted 167/6 in 20 overs.
India's spin all-rounder Washington Sundar, who took eight wickets and scored eight runs across five matches, was named Player of the Series.
