IND vs NZ: Ryan ten Doeschate states THIS reason for Washington Sundar's inclusion in the Indian squad

Indian assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has revealed the real reason behind the inclusion of Washington Sundar in the Indian squad as they prepare for the second Test match against New Zealand. On Sunday (Oct 20), Sundar was added to the Indian team for the remaining two Test matches of the three-match series. The addition comes after India lost the Bengaluru Test by eight wickets against New Zealand and trail 1-0.

Ten Doeschate reveals the reason for Washington Sundar’s addition

"I haven't been out there myself yet, but rest assured we're going to do everything in our capability to give the best assessment of that wicket. We got it slightly wrong in Bangalore the other day. I don't think it was a massive miss. The conditions just caught us on the back foot a little bit. So you can be sure that the preparation and the assessment of the wicket is going to be as close to perfect as we can make it," said Doeschate.

According to the assistant coach, Sundar could trouble the left-hand batters in the opposition camp. His spin option comes as an added incentive with New Zealand deploying three left-hand batters. Taking this into account, Sundar could be a value addition as the hosts look to revive their hopes of parity in the series.

Sundar’s call-up comes after he was omitted from the Test squad despite playing in the Bangladesh T20I series earlier this month. The call-up also comes after Sundar scored a brilliant 152 in the Ranji Trophy contest against Delhi.

India lose Bengaluru Test

Needing 107 runs to win the Bengaluru Test on Day 5, New Zealand batters made an easy meal of the Indian bowlers as they won the Test match. For India Rishabh Pant scored 99 and gave a good helping hand to Sarfaraz Khan who scored 150. These innings combined with Rohit’s 52 and Virat’s 71 helped India reach 462 as they overcame a massive deposit of 356 runs from the first innings.

However, the second innings heroics did not prove worthy for India having been bowled out for 46 in the first innings as they lost by eight wickets. The eyes will now be on the second Test match which starts on Thursday (Oct 24).
