Updated ICC World Test Championship points table after India whitewash Ban
India beat Bangladesh on Day 5 of the second and final Test at Green Park Stadium, Kanpur on Tuesday (Oct 1). The day kicked off with the visitors reeling at 26-2, trailing by another 26, as Rohit Sharma-led India rode on Jasprit Bumrah, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja's three-fers each to dismiss the Najmul Shanto-led Bangla Tigers for 146 and chased down a paltry 95-run target with seven wickets in hand. With this, India inflicted a 2-0 series whitewash over their Asian neighbours and are on course to cement their place in next year's WTC final, at Lord's in June.
India have a win percentage of 74.24 and firmly hold the top spot, followed by Australia and Sri Lanka, respectively.
The second and final Test turned in a miraculous style when play resumed on Day 4 after the preceding two days being washed out due to rain and wet outfield. Bangladesh resumed from their overnight score on Day 1, 107 for 3, to only manage 233 with Bumrah taking 3 for 50. In reply, Indian batters breathed life into the rain-marred contest with their aggressive approach as Rohit & Co. declared at 285 for 9, leading by 52 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal (72), KL Rahul (68) and Virat Kohli (47) were the top scorers as India piled up runs at a rapid pace, over eight an over, to push for a win.
As Bangladesh fell flat in their second essay, India only needed 95 to win. Jaiswal (51) and Kohli (29 not out) completed the formalities as India inflicted a 2-0 series whitewash to further strengthen their position in the WTC standings. As of now, they look set to reach their third successive WTC final. Their next series is a three-match Test series versus New Zealand at home, starting on October 16 in Bengaluru.
