India’s Jasprit Bumrah has attained the top spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Test bowlers rankings after a brilliant show with the ball in the Bangladesh series. In the rankings released on Wednesday (Oct 2), Bumrah gained top spot from countryman Ravichandran Ashwin. On the other hand, Yashasvi Jaiswal is now third in the Test batters rankings having been at the forefront of India’s win against Bangladesh in the Kanpur Test.

Bumrah reclaims top spot

The Indian speedster has been struggling with injuries in the last couple of years which saw him miss significant Test action for India. However, he has been in top form since his return to the side in recent months. In the Kanpur Test, he scalped six wickets and bagged five in the Chennai Test. He was instrumental in India’s seven-wicket win against Bangladesh as the hosts won the contest despite two days getting washed out due to rain.

He replaced Ravichandran Ashwin at the top who bagged five wickets in the Kanpur Test, the veteran spinner was named Player of the Series where he also contributed with the bat. Ashwin is second in the bowler’s rankings in the Test and occupies the same spot in the all-rounder’s rankings.

Jaiswal third in batters’ rankings

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been one of India’s most consistent performers in the last 12 months and he played another key role in the pro-Bazball approach that led to India’s win in the Kanpur Test. He scored fifties in both innings of the match with 72 and 51 respectively. His performance saw him earn the Player of the Match award.

In the batters’ rankings, Virat Kohli sits sixth while Rishabh Pant has dropped down three places to ninth in the standings.
