'Hope he continues...,' India skipper Rohit backs Yashasvi Jaiswal to become all-format batter

India skipper Rohit Sharma believes youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal has the talent to become an all-format player for the team. The comments come on the eve of the first Test against New Zealand which starts Wednesday (Oct 16) in Bengaluru.
"I am not surprised at all, because the guy has real talent. He has the game to succeed in all sorts of conditions. He’s still new to international cricket, so it’s hard to judge right now, but he’s got all the ingredients for success at this level. It’s just about how he manages himself in the next couple of years. In this brief period, he has already shown that you can bet on him to do wonders for the team," Rohit said at the pre-match conference.

"He has come through the ranks, playing a lot of domestic cricket and Under-19 cricket, and succeeded at every level. That’s why he’s playing for India now. So far, he has shown what he’s capable of, and that bodes well for our team. Being a left-hander and an aggressive batter is great for the team, and I hope he continues to perform like this," the skipper added.
Most recently, Jaiswal played against Bangladesh in the two-Test series and scored three fifties in the four innings he batted. He made his Test debut against West Indies last year and has played in 11 Tests since.
In the 20 Test innings batted, Jaiswal already has scored 1,217 runs at an average of 64 and a strike rate of 71. He also has three hundreds and seven fifties to his name with a highest of 214 not out.

Jaiswal also is the second-fastest Indian to score 1000 Test runs. He achieved the milestone in 16 innings, two more than record holder Vinod Kambli, who scored 1000 Test runs in just 14 Test innings.
