Ex-England pacer James Anderson reveals reason behind signing up for IPL auction

Ex-England pacer James Anderson reveals reason behind signing up for IPL auction

England great James Anderson to retire from Tests after chat with McCullum

Former England pacer James Anderson shocked everyone by signing up for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction and has now revealed why he did that. The 42-year-old recently retired from international cricket when he played his last Test in July earlier this year.

“That’s the whole point of going in the auction, I think, I want to play cricket again. Whether I get picked up or not is a different matter. There’s definitely a feeling inside of me that I’ve got more to offer, in some shape or form,” Anderson said in a conversation with Sky Sports.

“So, however long down the line that might be, in whatever capacity that might be I’m not sure yet. But I’m really keen to play. I feel really fit, I’ve been bowling still, ticking over, so I feel like I’m in a good place and I’d love to have an opportunity to play somewhere,” he added.

Anderson has played 44 T20s in his career including 19 for England and has taken 41 wickets in total - 18 for England and 22 for Lancashire in domestic Vitality Blast. Anderson last played a T20I in September 2009 against South Africa. His Last T20 for any team came in 2014 against Warwickshire.

The pacer is not only England's most successful bowler in Tests but in world cricket. He retired with 704 Test wickets to his name - the third most in history behind Sri Lanka's Muthiah Muralidaran (800) and Australia's Shane Warne (708).

Among pacers, Anderson is the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket history with his long-time England partner Stuart Broad being the second-best with 604 Test wickets.

It will be interesting to see if Anderson gets a buyer in the auction which is scheduled for November 24-25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
