England’s new full-time head coach Brendon McCullum has hailed Jos Buttler as the greatest white-ball player in English cricket while speaking on Tuesday (Sep 10). England who are set to face Australia in the ODI and T20I series will be without Buttler as he recovers from right calf injury. The batter has enjoyed a stellar career in white-ball cricket for England, having won the ODI World Cup in 2019 and the T20 World Cup in 2022, with the latter win coming as the skipper of the side.
McCullum hails Buttler as the greatest
"I think Jos has had an unbelievable career. If he were to retire tomorrow, he goes down as arguably the greatest white-ball player England has ever had. He has nothing left to prove," McCullum told Sky Sports.
McCullum also spoke on the need to groom the next generation as players need to be ready for future tournaments. The new white-ball coach also reckons England have been successful in the ODI and T20I format.

"I think there is a thirst for change. The one-day and T20 teams have been incredibly successful. It is in need of refreshing and bringing in some of that new talent which has probably been inspired by the very people that they are going to end up replacing,” he added.
England will face Australia in a three-match T20I series which will be followed by a five-match ODI series. Like Buttler, Australia will also miss the services of Pat Cummins who has opted to rest ahead of a busy summer. England on the other hand will look to build on their summer success having already beaten the West Indies and Sri Lanka on home turf in the red-ball format.
