India pacer Mayank Yadav has credited bowling coach Morne Morkelfor his development in the last couple of years at Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Yadav, who lit up IPL 2024 with his pace in the four matches he had played, finished with 1/21 in four overs during the first T20I against Bangladesh on Sunday (Oct 6) - his debut in India colours.

"It has been comfortable, hung with him for last three years. He knows me, I know him. It is easy for me to work with him. He knows what things are better for me and where I need to work," Mayank said about his equation with Morkel in a video shared by the BCCI.

The pacer also described his debut as a special moment after an injury cut short his IPL 2024 campaign after just four matches and sent him in rehab for nearly five months.

"Great moment because I am coming from an injury. I was very nervous. I was telling myself not to get stressed and be nervous. But when I got to know I was playing the first game, those last four months flashed before my eyes," said Mayank.

Speaking about Suryakumar Yadav, India's new T20I skipper after Rohit Sharma decided to retire post India's T20 World Cup victory, Mayank said: "During my run-up, he told me to bowl whatever I wanted. It is important for a fast bowler, especially on debut."

Yadav also created history on debut as he bowled his first over a maiden - becoming only the third Indian bowler ever to to do so.

Before Mayank, Arshdeep Singh and current BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar had bowled their first over as maiden on T20I debut. Mayank, who lit up the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 with his pace - lived up to the expectation, bowling well in north of 140 km/h.
