Stock market indices ended nearly 1 per cent lower on Monday after India's manufacturing growth eased in August on softer domestic demand and on concerns over the escalation of the global trade war.
The Sensex and Nifty fell sharply in late trade, led by the selloff in FMCG, banking, and auto stocks.
The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 38,313, down 333 points while the broader Nifty50 index settled at 11,582, down 98 points.
Among FMCG majors, ITC fell nearly 2% while HUL slumped nearly 5%.
Other top losers among Sensex stocks included Maruti, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, and PowerGrid, each down between 1.5% and 3%.
TCS, Kotak Mahindra Bank and ONGC were down over 1%. The rupee was trading at 71.04 against the US dollar in late trade.
