Stellantis announces global production plans for next-gen Jeep Compass

Automotive manufacturer Stellantis announced Monday its plans to commence production of the next-generation Jeep Compass at its Melfi facility in southern Italy by 2025. This strategic decision comes as part of the company's broader initiative to address declining output in its Italian operations while advancing its multi-powertrain vehicle strategy.

The new iteration of the popular midsize SUV will be constructed on Stellantis' innovative Medium platform, engineered to accommodate various propulsion systems. According to data from the FIM-CISL union, the company has experienced a substantial decline in production volume, with output at Italian plants falling by more than 30% in the first three quarters of the year. The Melfi facility, in particular, has been severely impacted, recording a staggering 62% reduction in production during the same period. Industry analysts project that Stellantis' full-year production in Italy for 2024 will likely fall below 500,000 vehicles, a significant decrease from the 751,000 units produced in the previous year.

To further bolster its production plans at the Melfi plant, Stellantis has also revealed its intention to introduce a new model under its premium DS brand at the beginning of 2025.
