Honda issues recall for 780,000 vehicles in North America due to fuel pump concerns

Honda is recalling about 780,000 vehicles in North America out of concern that a defect in the high-pressure fuel pump could cause a fuel leak. Models including the Accord, CR-V Hybrid, and Honda Civic from model years 2023 to 2025 are included in the recall announced by the automaker.

Approximately 720,000 vehicles in the United States and about 61,000 in Canada are being recalled. Honda told the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that a fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, increases the risk of fire.

Honda said the cause is a defective core in the high pressure fuel pump, which can develop cracks over time. During vehicle operation, these cracks can worsen and cause fuel leaks or a noticeable fuel odor while idling or driving. Around 145 warranty claims have been received related to this problem, but no injuries have been reported.

To deal with the problem, Honda will ask its dealers to examine the vehicles and overhaul the high pressure fuel pump if it's necessary. Honda began halting shipments of the impacted models in September, after identifying the presence of a fuel leak and odor.

As part of this commitment to safety, Honda is advising owners to check whether their vehicles had been affected by the recall, and to contact their dealer for further instructions. Proactive approach of the automaker is aimed to reduce any possible risks arising from this fuel pump defect in order to protect customer safety and confidence in its vehicles.

The fact that this recall continues to highlight the significance of not only vehicle safety, but also manufacturer accountability for the ultimate prevention of any potential defect becoming a more serious matter on the road is a reminder. Honda's response signals that it's remained steadfast in setting high safety standards and reacting quickly to consumer issues.
