British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak issued an apology after his Adidas Samba look during a recent interview stirred major controversy among fans and fashion enthusiasts.

During an interview at 10 Downing Street, Sunak was seen wearing the Sambas which were hailed as this year's "it footwear" and the "shoe of the season". Sunak paired the shoes with suit trousers and a white shirt.

Instead of praises for his look, The British prime minister faced online hate. He was accused of ruining them for everyone. Social media users in large number commented on the look, saying that Sunak had ruined the look for everyone and they would sell their shoes online.

In a report, British GQ magazine said that "in a bid to present himself as young and hip, Rishi Sunak took an eternally cool sneaker and ruined it for everyone".

When the footwear started to gain more popularity that meeting. Sunak had no option, but to issue an apology.

While speaking on LBC Radio, Sunak said: "I issue a fulsome apology to the Samba community. But, in my defence, I would say I have been wearing Adidas trainers including Sambas – and others, in fact – for many, many years. The first pair my brother got for me many, many years ago – my first pair of fun Adidas trainers as a Christmas present. I haven't looked back since. So I've been a longtime devotee."

"That pair [in the video] I did buy, but I've had Adidas trainers for a very long time," he added.
