West Asia crisis: Hezbollah launches rockets at Israeli intelligence base near Tel Aviv

Iran-aligned Lebanon-basedmilitant group Hezbollah said on Saturday (Nov 2) that it launched rockets at an Israeli intelligence base near Tel Aviv. Citing a statement from Hezbollah, the news agency AFP reported that the rockets were fired at 2:30 am (local time)towards the Glilot base of the 8200 military intelligence unit in the suburbs of Tel Aviv.

Fighting has escalated dramatically in recent weeks between Israeli forces and the Hezbollahgroup and hopes that a USpush for a ceasefire have faded in recent days.

Hezbollah frequently claims to have fired rockets at Israeli bases or urban areas in Israeli territory and has several times claimed the targeting of Glilot.

Rocket attacks in central Israel wound 11

Also on Saturday, rockets fired from Lebanon wounded 11 people in central Israel. According to the Israeli emergency services, one of the rockets hita house in the region.

Speaking to the news agency Reuters, a resident of Tira (where the rocket hit), said, "We went out and saw dust, children screaming, women screaming and everyone went to the house that was struck."

"We were able to evacuate and rescue those who were inside the house, and thank God we were blessed that there was no one killed," the resident added.

Israel's ambulance service said that 11 people were hurt by shrapnel. Air raid sirens continued to sound in northern Israel as rocket fire from Lebanon continued, the military said.

Lebanon accuses Israel of rejecting truce

Hezbollah's strikes in Israel came a day after Lebanon accused Israel of rejecting a ceasefire and the Israeli military’s bombing the militant group’s south Beirut stronghold for the first time this week.

At least 10 strikes hit Beirut's southern suburbs before dawn after Israel issued evacuation warnings.

Lebanon's health ministry later said 52 people were killed and 72 wounded in Israeli strikes on Friday in the country's eastern Baalbek-Hermel region, attacks for which the Israeli army had not issued evacuation warnings.

In a separate development, as per reports from Arab media aligned with Hezbollah, Israeli naval forces have made an incursion into Batroun, a city on Lebanon’s northern coast, where they reportedly detained a Hezbollah member,Israeli news outlet Ynet reported on Saturday.
