World's first long-distance electric bus line was inaugurated in Paris today. Chinese e-buses would operate on world's first electric routes in France.
A Germany-based bus company, FlexiBus, has invested in Chinese e-buses which will now be operated on trial on long-distance electric-routes between Paris and Amiens.
German low-cost company FlixBus presented its green bus at the foot of the Eiffel tower. The train service will begin on April 12, the journey between the two stations will take roughly two hours.
The bus has the capacity of 49 passengers and comes equipped with facilities like zero emissions, less noise, among others. It is also believed to drive more smoothly than its fuel-powered counterpart.
Flixbus France general director Yves Lefranc-Morin said the vehicle may be 30 percent more expensive to buy but the maintenance and running costs are much lower than those of a diesel bus.
German FlexiBus is touted as Europe's largest long-distance bus network. According to reports, the second Flix-e-Bus is expected to operate in Germany this summer between Hessen and Baden-Wurttemberg. The e-buses will be supplied by Chinese bus-maker, BYD. The German bus firm hopes to open more 100% electric lines in the future in France and Europe.
