US House passes 'Big Beautiful Bill', Trump to sign it into law

The Republican-led US Congress narrowly passed Donald Trump's flagship 'Big Beautiful Bill' Thursday (July 3) after a marathon voting session on the package, which is set to slash social welfare programs and add more than $3 trillion to the national debt.

The text, headlined by a $4.5 trillion renewal of the president's first-term tax cuts, was approved by the House of Representatives along party lines, delivering Trump the biggest legislative win of his second term.

Before the bill was passed, Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries delivered a record speech went stretched over eight hours. This move comes as a protest against Trump's touted bill and, in turn, also delayed the voting procedure. “Republicans are trying to jam this one, big, ugly bill down the throats of the American people,” he said.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, in a statement, said, “President Trump has delivered more wins for the American people in two weeks than most Presidents do in four years! Republicans just passed the One Big, Beautiful Bill, which is the ultimate codification of the Make America Great Again agenda – the largest middle-class tax cut in history, permanent border security, massive military funding, restoring fiscal sanity, and so much more.”

She added, "This is another incredible victory for America. Thank you to the Supreme Court for ruling on the side of law and order, and affirming the executive authority of the President. As we have said all along, lower-level judges cannot and should not dictate the national security interests of the United States from a bench in a random district court house. Mass deportations of illegal aliens shall, and will, continue — that is what the American people voted for! "

The lower chamber voted 218 to 214 to approve the bill. President Trump will be signing the bill into law at 5 PM (EST) in a ceremony on July 4.
