Mount Airy, North Carolina
US state of North Carolina's Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson was hospitalised with second-degree burns following an incident at a campaign event in Mount Airy on Friday (Sep 27) night, the American media reported on Saturday.
CNN reported that according to Mike Lonergan, communications director for Robinson’s gubernatorial campaign, the lieutenant governor was in good spirits and was excited to return to the campaign trail as scheduled.
No foul play involved in the incident
Citing a law enforcement source, CNN reported that Robinson’s burns stemmed from an accident at an automotive show and no foul play was involved.
His campaign did not provide any further details about the incident. Robinson, North Carolina’s Republican nominee for governor, had made several campaign stops around the state on Friday.

Robinson running for governor in November 5 election
Robinson, the Republican candidate for North Carolina's governor, is running in the November 5 election against Democratic candidate Josh Stein, the state's attorney general.
Robinson, 56, who was endorsed by former United States President Donald Trump, has a history of inflammatory comments and issued a video denial on social media. CNN earlier reported that Robinson once called himself a "black NAZI!" and proposed bringing back slavery in comments posted on a pornography website.
However, the 56-year-old denied making these remarks.
"Let me reassure you the things that you will see in that story - those are not the words of Mark Robinson," the candidate said, calling the CNN report "salacious tabloid lies."
"We are staying in this race," he added.
