North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson hospitalised with second-degree burns

US state of North Carolina's Lieutenant GovernorMark Robinson was hospitalised with second-degree burns following an incidentat a campaign event in Mount Airy on Friday (Sep27) night, the American media reported on Saturday.

CNN reported that according to Mike Lonergan, communications director for Robinson’s gubernatorial campaign, the lieutenant governor was in good spirits and wasexcited to return to the campaign trail as scheduled.

No foul play involved in the incident

Citing a law enforcement source, CNN reported thatRobinson’s burns stemmed from an accident at an automotive show and no foul play was involved.

His campaign did not provideany further details about the incident. Robinson, North Carolina’s Republican nominee for governor, had made several campaign stops around the state on Friday.

His final stop was the Mayberry Truck Show and Parade in Mount Airy, where the accident occurred.

Robinson running for governor in November 5 election

Robinson, the Republican candidate forNorth Carolina's governor, is running in the November 5 electionagainst Democratic candidate Josh Stein, the state's attorney general.

Robinson, 56, who was endorsed by former United States President DonaldTrump, has a history of inflammatory comments and issued a video denial on social media. CNN earlier reported that Robinson oncecalled himself a "black NAZI!" and proposed bringing back slavery in comments posted on a pornography website.

However, the 56-year-old denied making these remarks.

"Let me reassure you the things that you will see in that story - those are not the words ofMarkRobinson," the candidate said, calling the CNN report "salacious tabloid lies."

"We are staying in this race," he added.
