Hundreds of fifth-century gold coins worth millions have been discovered at the Italian province of Como during an archaeological dig.
The stash of coins - dated back to the late Roman imperial era, was found last week in the Cressoni Theater basement close to the where an ancient city of Novum Comum once existed.
Minister of Cultural Heritage and Activities Alberto Bonisoli said that even though they do not know the complete information in terms of historical details and cultural significance but the area has proven to be a real treasure for the archaeology team.
"A discovery that fills me with pride: hundreds of gold coins of the late imperial era have been found in Como, kept in a soapstone vessel of an unusual shape, which does not currently compare," he said in a Twitter post.
The coins were discovered last week, according to Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, and were transferred to the Mibac restoration laboratory in Milan where archaeologists and restorers will examine them.

As per reports, a press conference has been scheduled where more details will be provided.
The historic Cressoni Theater opened in 1807 before transitioning into a cinema and eventually closing in 1997.
