Lebanon-based Iran-backed Hezbollah militant group said on Friday (Sep 27) that they launched a series of rockets targeting the Israeli city of Tiberias.

In its statement, Hezbollah said that this action was in retaliation for what it called Israel's "savage" attacks on Lebanese towns and civilians. The Israeli military confirmed that drones and rockets from Lebanon had entered its airspace, news agency AFP reported.

On Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) killed Muhammad Hussein Srour, the head of Hezbollah's Aerial Command, in an airstrike in Beirut.

The IDF took to X and said, “Eliminated: Commander of Hezbollah’s Aerial Command, Muhammad Hussein Srour, in a precise IAF strike in Beirut.”

Lebanon's Ministry of Health said that Israeli airstrikes on Thursday claimed the lives of at least 92 people and left 153 others injured. This brings the total number of fatalities from Israeli strikes on Lebanon to over 700 this week alone.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the official X account of the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a statement addressing what they called widespread "misreporting" concerning a US-led ceasefire plan.

The statement said, "Earlier this week, the US shared with Israel its intention to put forward, together with other international and regional partners, a ceasefire proposal in Lebanon."

"Israel shares the aims of the US-led initiative of enabling people along our northern border to return safely and securely to their homes. Israel appreciates the US efforts in this regard because the US role is indispensable in advancing stability and security in the region," it added.

According to a statement from Netanyahu’s office, representatives from Israel and the United States held a meeting on Thursday (Sep 26). During the discussion, they talked about ways to achieve their mutual objective of ensuring people return safely to their homes.
