'Gossip Girl' 10th anniversary: Best-kept secrets of the hit series

It's been ten years since the first episode of "Gossip Girls"aired on The CW Network.

The American teen drama television series was based on the book of the same name written byCecily von Ziegesar.

It was created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and revolved around the fictional lives ofupper-class adolescents living in Manhattan's Upper East Side.

One of the highest ranked television series of that time, "Gossip Girls"continues to be thefavourite of many.

On its tenthanniversary, here's a look at some of the best-kept secrets from the sets of the series:

The writers of the series always saw actress Blake Lively as Serena Van der Woodsen. Because of Lively's popularity in "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants", the creators knew that she was right for the role.

Blake Lively, however, wasn't sure about the role. At that point in time, she wanted to go to college.

The creators told her that she could go to Colombia University and after the first year of the show, she couldstart going to school. She said, "OK. You know what? I'll do this." Lively never ended up finishing college though.

Leighton Meester who eventually played the role of Blair Waldorf auditioned for Serena's part but told the creators after she gave the test.

She was a blonde and Blair's role had brown hair. Leighton actually went to the sink and dyed the hair. The creators knew that she really wanted the part and could play the role with finesse.

School-time best friends in the series, Serena and Blair weren't actually friends in real life. They were friendly to each other but never friends. However, they acted so well that no one could actually say otherwise.

Penn Badgley who played the role of Dan Humphrey, Serena's loverwas very much like the character on the show but didn't like it much. Joshua said, "Penn didn't like being on Gossip Girl, but...he was Dan.He may not have liked it, but [his character] was the closest to who he was."

Penn and Lively dated on screen as well as off screen for a bit. They dated in real life for three years while filming the show but when they split in 2010, they did not disclose it. They didn't want it to interfere with the show or their careers.

For those wondering if the actors look forward to a reboot of the series, Leighton in a statement was quoted:"Yeah, I don't really hear [talk of] that. I guess I hear that in fits and starts here and there, but it's hard to say. If everyone was into it and if the timing was right, you know? I don't want to say, 'No, never.'"

While lively said, "of course" to take up the role if areboot was in consideration. She said, "I'm open to anything that's good, that's interesting, and that sort of feels necessary. I imagine we all would [consider it]. I can't speak for everyone else, but we all owe so much to this show, and I think that it would be silly not to acknowledge that."
