The Republic National Convention (RNC) is set to take place on Monday (Jul 15) at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, less than 48 hours after Donald Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt. While guns are not allowed inside the venue, individuals will be allowed to carry them outsidethe convention centre in the outer perimeter.Tennis balls and paintball guns, however, remain a strict no-no.
Wisconsin is an open-carry state and the lawallows people to openly carry guns and conceal-carry with a permit inside the 'so-called' perimeter, according to a report in ABC News.Secret Service (SS), responsible for Trump's safety will be controlling the inner "hard perimeter" but given the events of July 13 where a shooter fired from 140 metres out, calls have been growing to implement strict gun control laws.
However,a recent Milwaukee city ordinancebans tennis balls, paintball guns, water bottles, canned food and more in the outer perimeter but leaves outmost guns. State law prohibits the city from banning firearms.
"You're barred from possessing tennis balls, but you can have a loaded AR-15.That is the craziest, most absurd, situation I've ever heard in my twenty years of being an elected official,"city council member Bob Bauman said at the time when the proposal was introduced.

Despite the threat surrounding the event, the Secret Servicesaid it had made no changes to its security plan for the RNC.

"This event is designated as a national special security event, which is the highest level of security for an event that can be designated by the government," saidAudrey Gibson-Cicchino, RNC Coordinator of the Secret Service.
"So, this is a whole of government approach. We've had an extensive planning process to include many organisations," stated Gibson-Cicchino.
The SS chief for RNC added that there had been no plans to extend the perimeter of the convention and that she did not receive any request fromWisconsin Democratic Gov. Tony Evers to ban guns in the outer perimeter.
Trump has already arrived in Milwaukee for the convention amidheightened security fears. He is not expected to speak at RNC until Thursday night but the Pennsylvania incident may have turbocharged his bid for the November presidential elections.
