<p>The Japanese government is offering women in the city 600,000 yen (US$4,200 or Rs 3,52,758) for marrying men living in rural areas, according to Asahi News. This is because of the imbalance in regional development which the government says is affecting the country's social progress.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to Japan’s 2023 Population Migration Report, around 68,000 more people moved to Tokyo than out of it, with more than half of them being women.</p>

<p>However, the incentive plan has backfired as people in the country are not happy with it, SCMP reported.</p>

<p>The country is jostling with more people entering big cities, shrinking the workforce in rural areas. Women have been leaving rural areas in large numbers for want of better education, and more job opportunities in the city.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With fewer people left in these areas, several houses are lying empty and some schools and hospitals have also had to shut down. This has also led to a decline in the number of&nbsp;babies born in the region.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To balance the distribution of population and economic development across regions, the government started offering incentives of up to 600,000 yen to women who were willing to leave Tokyo and marry men in rural areas.</p>

<p>All single women living or working in the 23 municipalities of Tokyo could make use of the subsidy. Travel costs of all women going to rural areas in search of a match would also be covered by the government.</p>

<p>But with anger brewing over the proposal across the country, it has now been suspended.</p>

<p>Notably, Japan is facing a population crisis and the nation's birth rate is at an all-time low. In June this year, the country's health ministry described the nation’s birth rate as “critical” after registering record-low numbers for the eighth consecutive year.</p>

<p>Last year, fewer than 500,000 couples tied the knot, the lowest in the country in 90 years.&nbsp;</p>

However, the incentive plan has backfired as people in the country are not happy with it, SCMP reported. The country is jostling with more people entering big cities, shrinking the workforce in rural areas. Women have been leaving rural areas in large numbers for want of better education, and more job opportunities in the city. With fewer people left in these areas, several houses are lying empty and some schools and hospitals have also had to shut down. This has also led to a decline in the number of babies born in the region. To balance the distribution of population and economic development across regions, the government started offering incentives of up to 600,000 yen to women who were willing to leave Tokyo and marry men in rural areas. All single women living or working in the 23 municipalities of Tokyo could make use of the subsidy. Travel costs of all women going to rural areas in search of a match would also be covered by the government. But with anger brewing over the proposal across the country, it has now been suspended. Population crisis in Japan Notably, Japan is facing a population crisis and the nation's birth rate is at an all-time low. In June this year, the country's health ministry described the nation’s birth rate as “critical” after registering record-low numbers for the eighth consecutive year. Last year, fewer than 500,000 couples tied the knot, the lowest in the country in 90 years. Japanese scholar Kenichi Ohmae told SCMP that people are reluctant to take risks or incur debts which has translated into fewer people getting married, a diminished desire for children, and even engaging in sexual relationships.

NASA shares haunting image of 9/11 attacks captured from space

<p>German athlete Alica Schmidt, dubbed by a section of the media as the most beautiful and sexiest athlete, is grabbing the limelight once again for her vacation pictures.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 25-year-old has gone into relaxation mode kickstarting her vacation in Palermo, Italy. Sharing pictures on Instagram, Schmidt told her fans that she is off for four weeks.</p>

<p>"Off-season has started, get ready for 4 weeks of vacation content 🤌🏻🏝️#vacation #offseason," Schmidt wrote.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Schmidt debuted at the Olympics in Paris this year. She was part of the German athletics team which finished in 7th place in the women’s 4x400m relay. Even though her squad failed to qualify for the final, the entire experience left Schmidt feeling inspired.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After returning from Paris, she talked about the "emotional rollercoaster" in an Insta post.</p>

<p>"The Olympics are not just about winning medals. It‘s about being alongside inspiring athletes while competing at the highest level," Schmidt wrote on Instagram. "Showing ambition, celebrating diversity and people no matter who they are and where they are from."</p>

<p>The matter first made headlines when during an August meeting of the Springfield City Commission, a man claimed that migrants from Haiti were stealing ducks at local parks, beheading them and then taking them home to eat, as per a New York Post report. However, the man offered no proof. He demanded the officials to take action against the migrants.</p>

<p>“They’re in the park grabbing up ducks by their neck and cutting their head off and walking up with them and eating them,” the man said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Someone in the Springfield Facebook group claimed that a friend saw their cat butchered and purportedly hanging in the yard of the home of a Haitian migrant.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Claims seem to have no basis</h2>

<p>However, none of the claims were verified. The police told the Springfield News-Sun that the matter is not of concern to them for now. "There have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community," a Springfield spokesperson said.</p>

<p>Another video shared in the FB group showed a woman who was allegedly arrested for eating a cat. However, the incident did not happen in Springfield, and the woman, 27-year-old Allexis Telia Ferrell, is neither Haitian nor a migrant, as per records.</p>

<p>According to Fox12, Ferrell was charged after going berserk on August 16 and allegedly stomping on a cat and then eating it in front of her neighbours.</p>

<p>Vice-presidential candidate JD Vance also raised the matter in a social media post. "People have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn’t be in this country," Vance wrote on X.</p>

<p>“Senator Vance has received a high volume of calls and emails over the past several weeks from concerned citizens in Springfield: his tweet is based on what he is hearing from them,” one of his spokespersons told The Hill.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, several social media commenters say the claims are "racist, xenophobic responses to Springfield’s shifting demographics", where the white population has been declining and that of blacks and Hispanics is rising.&nbsp;</p>
