According to the advisory, Microsoft Edge has a number of vulnerabilities. These might give a remote attacker the ability to get beyond security measures and run arbitrary code or launch a denial of service (DoS) attack against the impacted system.

The advice described the danger and noted that similar flaws exist in Chromium Open-Source Software (OSS), which Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) uses.

These vulnerabilities exist for a number of reasons, including:

The lock screen is the first major change. Users may now add whatever function they want to see immediately on their screen, such as weather, fitness, clocks, and so on. This makes it extremely simple for consumers to access essential apps. Apple has added the feature to switch between lock screens, which was previously only available on its Apple Watch. We can also change colours and fonts!

Wallpapers:

People used to depend on third-party wallpapers since Apple's wallpapers were so dull, but Apple decided to change that this time. We now have a wide variety of new wallpapers, so much so that our favourite emoticons can now be wallpapered as well. To match the home screen and home screen backgrounds, we now have the option to adjust the background colour or simply blur it.

Notifications:

The notification panel has a new style that notifies users by springing notification bars from the bottom. With this one, Apple went for a really clean, yet sophisticated design. On iOS 16, we have new live notifications, so if you want Safari to keep you updated on match results all the time, you can do so without having to check the app frequently.

Apple has finally heard us!

Who spends more than 60,000 rupees on a vacuum cleaner? It’s a question which is often thrown in the air when the name Dyson enters the chatroom. Speak to anyone who has used a Dyson vacuum cleaner and they’ll convince you why it’s not a luxury but a necessity. The pandemic has turned me into one of those people.

Traditional cleaning methods do not appeal to me anymore simply because they are time consuming and produce poor results. Dust is everywhere in our homes; on our floors, gathering in carpets, thriving in our mattresses, hiding in our rugs and blankets, enjoying the shade in our curtains. Allergy season is a nightmare for all us, especially kids heading back to classrooms.

Which is why vacuum cleaners have become a common sight in most homes, hotels and schools. Dyson has plenty of them in its portfolio and each one claims to be better than the next.

I have been grateful to my Dyson V11 Absolute Pro for its cleaning prowess for more than two years now. It has seen me through multiple lockdowns, job changes, routine upheavals and dust patterns.

Let us talk about the design. It carries Dyson’s classic colour scheme of purple with gold accents which looks great stacked up in the corner of a room. Don’t leave this beast lying around especially with kids running around. It comes with a charging dock and mount which can be mounted in any corner for easy charging and can be packed up when you’re done. It’s lighter than the V11 and that is a big advantage especially if your child or a grandparent wants to use it.

WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREATER SUCTION

What’s a good vacuum cleaner without great suction power? A bad vacuum cleaner. This one comes with a more powerful 240AW motor which is big improvement from the more recent Dyson V15 Detect Slim. The machine is smart enough to do all the thinking for you. Depending on the level of dust and type of flooring, it switches between Eco, Auto and Boost mode.

As someone who relies on Eco mode to conserve battery, I found this feature very handy. For example, pieces of paper were quickly picked up on Eco Mode; sand from my son’s recent art project required a bit of Auto magic. And of course, those stubborn corners can be wiped clean with the powerful Boost Mode.

CHECK ALL STATS ON THE LCD

The LCD is to give us all a reality check about how clean our floors really are. It provides you real-time data about the size of dust particles, the amount of dust captured by the V15 Detect along with the battery status of your vacuum cleaner.

While you may not find this useful after multiple cleaning sessions, since cleaning is a very monotonous process, I suggest you give it a glance every now and then.

The trigger button has always been my preferred option than the one-click button for switching on the vacuum cleaner. It’s like playing a video game, an instinctive one, where the cleaner follows the dust and you simply point and shoot!

DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE ATTACHMENTS

You buy your first Dyson. You exhale in nervousness as you see the hefty price. You receive the big brown box. You open it and see the multiple attachments promising you the world. You get overwhelmed and shut the box and shove it in a closet.

Stop doing that. Yes, it can be overwhelming at first. But let me be frank, my four-year-old son has learnt how to attach and detach the different heads.

Dyson’s vacuum cleaners come with different heads for different surfaces. The V15 Detect comes with my favourite tool yet — the anti-tangle cleaner head. Its hair removal vanes direct all those strands of hair directly to the bin without you having to dirty your fingers. I used this multiple times and was impressed with the results each time!

The other heads and tools are similar to previous iterations. I find that people avoid using the other tools and mostly use the floor cleaner. I would suggest you give the other attachments a shot. You’ve paid more than Rs 60,000 for a vacuum cleaner after all!

IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO THE BATTERY

I am sad to report that the battery doesn’t get a major upgrade. Depending on your usage as well as the mode you clean in, your battery will take a hit. A single charge may give you an hour’s worth of cleaning which could definitely use some improvement especially if you don’t want to charge your gadget multiple times and are moving through different floors and surfaces.

SHOULD YOU BUY IT?

A Dyson product isn’t for everyone. Let us start with the pricing. Many would balk at spending more than Rs 60,000 on a cleaning device no matter how fancy it looks.

Secondly, the superior technology may overwhelm several people who are comfortable sticking to traditional cleaning methods like using a mop or a dust cloth.

But increasingly, Dyson and other companies have tapped into the market of urban professionals who are perpetually short of time and want to maintain their homes nonetheless.

If you are the latter, Dyson’s V15 Detect checks all the boxes. If you’re willing to dole out the large sum, you will not be disappointed. This is possibly the most portable and effective vacuum cleaner in the market as of now. So if shiny floors at a high cost is your goal, go for it.

It comes with a charging dock and mount which can be mounted in any corner for easy charging and can be packed up when you’re done. It’s lighter than the V11 and that is a big advantage especially if your child or a grandparent wants to use it. WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREATER SUCTION What’s a good vacuum cleaner without great suction power? A bad vacuum cleaner. This one comes with a more powerful 240AW motor which is big improvement from the more recent Dyson V15 Detect Slim. The machine is smart enough to do all the thinking for you. Depending on the level of dust and type of flooring, it switches between Eco, Auto and Boost mode. As someone who relies on Eco mode to conserve battery, I found this feature very handy. For example, pieces of paper were quickly picked up on Eco Mode; sand from my son’s recent art project required a bit of Auto magic. And of course, those stubborn corners can be wiped clean with the powerful Boost Mode. CHECK ALL STATS ON THE LCD The LCD is to give us all a reality check about how clean our floors really are. It provides you real-time data about the size of dust particles, the amount of dust captured by the V15 Detect along with the battery status of your vacuum cleaner. The Southern Co-Op chain, which is a regional consumer co-operative in the United Kingdom, is facing a legal challenge after it has been accused of using live facial-recognition cameras in its stores "unlawfully".&nbsp;

The reports were published in UK-based media outlets after Big Brother Watch, which is a non-profit non-party British civil liberties and privacy campaigning organisation, complained to the country's Information Commissioner's Office about biometric surveillance at its shops.&nbsp;

The allegations are quite arming against the firm that operates a network of convenience food stores, funeral homes, burial grounds and a Starbucks coffee franchise across the south of England.&nbsp;

As quoted by EandT, Big Brother Watch's director, Silkie Carlo, said: "Our legal complaint to the Information Commissioner is a vital step towards protecting the privacy rights of thousands of people who are affected by this dangerously intrusive, privatised spying."&nbsp;

A BBC report quoted Southern Co-op as saying that it would welcome "constructive feedback" from the Information Commissioner.&nbsp;

It said, "We take our responsibilities around the use of facial recognition extremely seriously and work hard to balance our customers’ rights with the need to protect our colleagues and customers from unacceptable violence and abuse."&nbsp;

"The safety of our colleagues and customers is paramount and this technology has made a significant difference to this, in the limited number of high-risk locations where it is being used. Signage is on display in the relevant stores. As long as it continues to prevent violent attacks, then we believe its use is justified," it added.&nbsp;

The questionable technology has been installed by the firm in 35 stores across Portsmouth, Bournemouth, Bristol, Brighton and Hove, Chichester, Southampton and London, media reports noted.&nbsp;

Jasmine Enberg, who is the principal analyst at research firm Insider Intelligence, said, "Twitter is now in the unenviable position of convincing advertisers that its ad business is solid regardless of how its court battle with Musk ends, and its Q2 earnings show that the platform has its work cut it out for it to do that."&nbsp;

According to Refinitiv IBES data, the advertising revenue rose just 2% to $1.08 billion. It missed Wall Street expectations of $1.22 billion.&nbsp;

On Friday, Twitter shares opened flat at $38.90. Twitter also reported that the number of "monetizable" daily active users increased by 8.8 million, less than expected by analysts, to 237.8 million. Monetizable daily active users are those who can be shown advertising.&nbsp;

Twitter blames Elon Musk and weak ad market for drop in revenue

As long as your account is public, Instagram will soon allow anyone on the platform to remix your fresh photographs. Remixing will be possible to disable, but once the option is available, you will have to actively choose not to do so because it will be turned on by default.

Instagram says it will enable the "remixing" of public photographs for use inside Reels, its TikTok-like video service, in the "coming weeks." The modification is intended to give Reels creators more material to work with as the firm invests heavily in short-form video in an effort to stay up with its wildly successful rival.

Devi Narasimhan, a Meta spokeswoman, said that Instagram will offer options to disable remixing, even though it will be enabled by default. Through the options menu, users will be able to disable remixing for specific photographs or for their entire account. Remixing will be disabled by default for any photos posted before the functionality becomes live, but you can enable it for specific postings if you'd like.

This system is comparable to Instagram's when it allowed remixing of all publicly available videos in January, only allowing it for videos that had been released after the change was made.

Photographers have frequently expressed scepticism about how Instagram manages their photographs, so today's shift — and the lack of options or explanations around it — probably won't do the business any favours. Although the corporation couldn't sell users' images after a revision to the app's terms of service back in 2012, similar worries have remained practically every time those terms of service have been altered. Adam Mosseri, the founder and CEO of Instagram, has announced that the app is "no longer a photo sharing app."

The web monitoring firm also showed that there were more than 150 incidents of people reporting issues with Microsoft Office 365.

In its official Twitter handle, Microsoft said that it has received reports of users being unable to access Microsoft Teams or leverage any features. So far, it is unclear what caused this outage.

MS Teams faces major outage, Twitteratis flood social media with funny memes

A Thai minister has admitted the country uses surveillance software to track individuals in cases involving national security or drugs, amid revelations that government critics' phones had been hacked using the Israeli-made Pegasus spyware.

Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn, said in parliament late on Tuesday that he is aware of Thai authorities using spyware in "limited" cases but did not specify which government agency used such software, which programme was used or which individuals targeted.

Human rights groups have accused successive Thai governments of using broad definitions of national security as a pretext to prosecute or suppress the activities of their main rivals.

A joint investigation by Thai human rights group iLaw, Southeast Asian internet watchdog Digital Reach and Toronto-based Citizen Lab highlighted on Monday the use of Pegasus spyware on at least 30 government critics between October 2020 to November 2021.

The probe followed a mass alert from Apple Inc. in November informing thousands of users of its iPhones, including in Thailand, that they were targets of "state-sponsored attackers".

Chaiwut did not name Pegasus but said that he is aware of spyware being used to "listen into or access a mobile phone to view the screen, monitor conversations and messages". But he added his ministry does not have the legal authority to use such software and did not specify which government agency does.

"It is used on national security or drug matters. If you need to arrest a drug dealer you have to listen in to find where the drop would be," he said.

"I understand that there was the usage of this sort but it is very limited and only in special cases."

His ministry has previously denied any knowledge of the matter.

The most recent alleged use of the spyware comes after the emergence of a youth-led movement in late 2020 that challenged the country's powerful monarchy and the government of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha. More than 1,800 people have faced security-related charges since the movement began.

Thai police in a statement denied the use of Pegasus for surveillance or breaches of privacy.

Pegasus has been used by governments to spy on journalists, activists, and dissidents and the Israeli firm behind it, NSO Group, has been sued by Apple and placed on a U.S. trade blacklist.

NSO Group did not respond to Reuters' requests for comment on Monday or Wednesday.

Lawyers for Twitter and Elon Musk squared off for the first time in court on Tuesday (July 19). According to a judge in the eastern US state of Delaware, social media giant Twitter can fast-track its lawsuit against Musk over his cancelled buyout.&nbsp;

The trial will take place in October over whether or not the Tesla chief can be forced to complete his $44 billion deal to buy the social network.&nbsp;

On Tuesday, the Delaware judge ruled against the Musk lawyer's appeal for a February trial. The judge ordered for a month much closer to Twitter's request for September, but did not specify&nbsp;a date.&nbsp;

Meta Platforms Inc on Monday announced that Instagram is getting a payment feature that will allow users to buy from small businesses through direct messages.

Meta, which is the parent company of Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp, said that users of the photo-sharing app will be able to track the order and ask the business any follow-up questions in that same chat thread.

The company added that users can add customisations if required and place the order in the chat itself.

In a bid to expand its e-commerce offerings, Meta has introduced several new features that use its payment service Meta Pay to complete purchases.

The EU has been courting Taiwan, a major semiconductor producer, as one of the "like-minded" partners it would like to work with under the European Chips Act unveiled in February, as it tries to deal with a persistent global chip shortage. While Taiwan and the EU held-high level trade talks last month, less than a week after that meeting Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC) said it had no concrete plans for factories in Europe, having flagged a year ago that it was in the early stages of reviewing a potential expansion into Germany. Taiwan Deputy Economy Minister Chen Chern-chyi, whose portfolio covers economic relations with Europe, said late Monday that while he could not speak on behalf of chip companies, he noted they have not said they are not going to Europe. "But the government`s position is that we are happy to see our companies having a global footprint, including the United States and Europe, who are both our like-minded partners. On a policy level we are of course very happy to see them deploying globally, and would be glad to see it happen," he said. In the face of sustained Chinese political and military pressure designed to force Taiwan to accept China`s sovereignty claims, Taipei has been keen to bolster ties with other democracies even in the absence of formal diplomatic relations. In a call with executives on Thursday, Twitter claimed that it removes 1 million spam accounts daily as part of its dispute with Elon Musk about "spam bots." The company's fake and bot accounts were also discussed.

The CEO of Tesla, who has offered to pay $44 billion to acquire Twitter, has threatened to back out of the deal if Twitter cannot demonstrate that fewer than 5% of its daily active users are automated spam accounts.

Without providing any supporting data, Musk claims that Twitter drastically overestimated the number of these "spam bots"—automated accounts that frequently spread false information and engage in fraudulent activity.

During the call, Twitter stated that spam accounts make up significantly less than 5% of its active user base each quarter. Twitter claimed it reviews "thousands of accounts" picked at random, using both public and private data to evaluate whether an account is legitimate, including IP addresses, phone numbers, geolocation, and how the account behaves when it is active, to determine how many accounts are malicious spam.

IP addresses, phone numbers, and location are examples of private data that isn't accessible to the general public and isn't included in the data "firehose" provided to Musk. According to Twitter, this sensitive information helps prevent falsely labelling actual accounts as spam.

For years, fake social media accounts have been a concern. The number of users offered by social media sites is used by advertisers to guide their spending decisions. Additionally, spam bots are employed to magnify communications and disseminate false information. But Twitter made a point of saying that not all automated accounts are bad bots throughout the session. It introduced a badge for automated accounts last year to distinguish what the business refers to as "good bots"—for example, accounts that offer news, health, or weather updates.

Twitter and its investors are well aware of the problem with phoney accounts. For years, the company has provided its best projections to the US Securities and Exchange Commission while also expressing concern that its estimate may be understated. According to numerous stories at the time, Twitter reportedly gave Musk access to its "firehose" of raw data on hundreds of millions of daily tweets, though neither the business nor Musk verified this.

IP addresses, phone numbers, and location are examples of private data that isn't accessible to the general public and isn't included in the data "firehose" provided to Musk. According to Twitter, this sensitive information helps prevent falsely labelling actual accounts as spam. For years, fake social media accounts have been a concern. The number of users offered by social media sites is used by advertisers to guide their spending decisions. Additionally, spam bots are employed to magnify communications and disseminate false information. But Twitter made a point of saying that not all automated accounts are bad bots throughout the session. It introduced a badge for automated accounts last year to distinguish what the business refers to as "good bots"—for example, accounts that offer news, health, or weather updates. For years, the company has provided its best projections to the US Securities and Exchange Commission while also expressing concern that its estimate may be understated. 'Pegasus' a snooping software by the NSO Group is one such spyware that can carry out such attacks. The maker has been sued by Apple and has been placed on a trade blacklist by US officials.
