<p>When it launched the new Monk Skin Tone Scale, Google's parent company Alphabet Inc said that the palette would replace a flawed standard of six colors known as the Fitzpatrick Skin Type, which had become popular in the tech industry to assess whether smartwatch heart-rate sensors, artificial intelligence systems including facial recognition and other offerings show color bias.</p>

<p>Tech researchers acknowledged that Fitzpatrick underrepresented people with darker skin. Reuters exclusively reported last year that Google was developing an alternative.</p>

<p>To develop the new palette, Google partnered with Harvard University sociologist Ellis Monk. He studied colorism and &nbsp;had felt dehumanized by cameras that failed to detect his face and reflect his skin tone.</p>

<p>Monk said Fitzpatrick is great for classifying differences among lighter skin. But most people are darker, so he wanted a scale that "does better job for the majority of world," he said.</p>

<p>Monk through Photoshop and other digital art tools curated 10 tones - a manageable number for people who help train and assess AI systems. He and Google surveyed around 3,000 people across the United States and found that a significant number said a 10-point scale matched their skin as well as a 40-shade palette did.</p>

<p>Tulsee Doshi, head of product for Google's responsible AI team, called the Monk scale "a good balance between being representative and being tractable."</p>

<p>Google is already applying it. Beauty-related Google Images searches such as "bridal makeup looks" now allow filtering results based on Monk. Image searches such as "cute babies" now show photos with varying skin tones.</p>

<p>Fads come and go but if there is something that has maintained its position, it's our lappy. In last two years when working from home became a norm all over the world, laptops went through a renaissance of sorts. <p>Google is in the headlines yet again for its allegedly anticompetitive conduct with the Play store.</p>

<p>The tech giant has been sued by dating apps maker Match Group Inc for refusing to share almost 30 per cent of their sales.</p>

<p>The Tinder owner said that the step was a "last resort" to prevent its other apps from being booted off the Play store.</p>

<p>This is not the first time Google has been sued for its monopolistic attitude as previously "Fortnite" maker Epic Games filed a lawsuit against Alphabet Inc for a similar ordeal.</p>

<p>In its filing, Match said that even though its customer prefers Tinder's payment system Google is trying to intimidate them by saying that it will block downloads of those apps which were previously exempted by June 1 unless they solely offer its payment system and share revenue.</p>

From Google to Meta: Tech giants dominating Wall Street's trillion-dollar club

<p>The New York Times (NYT) has reported that billionaire Elon Musk wants to increase Twitter's annual revenue to $26.4 billion by 2028.</p>

<p>Citing a pitch deck presented by Musk to investors, NYT reported that he aims to increase Twitter's cash flow to $3.2 billion in 2025 and $9.4 billion in 2028.</p>

<p>According to the report, Musk plans on ensuring that 45 per cent of total revenue comes from advertising instead of 90 per cent in 2020.</p>

The New York Times (NYT) has reported that billionaire Elon Musk wants to increase Twitter's annual revenue to $26.4 billion by 2028. Citing a pitch deck presented by Musk to investors, NYT reported that he aims to increase Twitter's cash flow to $3.2 billion in 2025 and $9.4 billion in 2028. According to the report, Musk plans on ensuring that 45 per cent of total revenue comes from advertising instead of 90 per cent in 2020. This will generate $12 billion in revenue in 2028, while subscriptions are expected to pull in another $10 billion as per the report. The NYT cited the document as saying, Musk expects the social media company to bring in $15 million from a payments business in 2023 that will grow to about $1.3 billion by 2028. <p>The morning's events were detailed in a tweet thread by the BAYC account: A hacker uploaded a fake link to the hijacked Instagram account that, when clicked, took victims to a clone of the BAYC website with the promise of a special new feature for holders of Bored Ape NFTs.</p>

<p>The link was a phishing link, allowing the hacker to access the users' Ethereum wallets and steal their funds.</p>

<p>According to Twitter user Zachxbt, who often probes NFT attacks, an assortment of about 77 additional NFTs were also stolen during the hack when the hacker drained the victims' wallets.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To figure out which specific assets were stolen, Zachxbt looked at which addresses interacted with the phishing site.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Zachxbt estimated that around $3 million in NFTs were stolen in total in this breach in a direct message, with $2.4 million in value represented by just a few of the more unusual NFTs stolen.</p>
