<p>Gaming companies are facing a slowdown in demand for video games from pandemic highs. The near-term prospects for Stadia also looked dim as high inflation has caused some consumers to reduce their spending on entertainment.</p>

<p>"While Stadia's approach to streaming games for consumers was built on a strong technology foundation, it hasn't gained the traction with users that we expected," Phil Harrison, vice president and general manager of Stadia, said in a blog post.</p>

<p>The company said it would be refunding all Stadia hardware purchases made through the Google Store, and all game and add-on content purchases made through the Stadia store.</p>

<p>However, players will continue to have access to their games library and play through Jan. 18.</p>

<p>On Wednesday, Apple’s shares went down about four&nbsp;per cent following reports of cuts in production plans this year.</p>

<p>On Monday, the US tech giant announced that it began making its new iPhone 14 in India sooner than anticipated, as it moves some of its production away from China.</p>

<p>Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk blamed overreliance on factory robots for sending the electric carmaker to "production hell" four years ago, saying humans were better at certain jobs.</p>

<p>Musk's Texas company now is floating ambitious plans to deploy thousands of humanoid robots, known as Tesla Bot or Optimus, within its factories, expanding eventually to millions around the world, according to job postings. Buzz is building within the company as Tesla is having more internal meetings on robots, a person familiar with the matter said.</p>

<p>Longer term, Musk said at a TED Talk robots could be used in homes, making dinner, mowing the lawn and caring for the elderly people, and even becoming a "buddy" or a "catgirl" sex partner.</p>

<p>The robot business eventually may be worth more than Tesla's car revenue, according to Musk, who is now touting a vision for the company that goes well beyond making self-driving electric vehicles.</p>

<p>At its "AI Day" on Sept. 30, Tesla will unveil a prototype from its project Optimus, an allusion to the powerful and benevolent leader of the Autobots in the Transformers series. Production could start next year, Musk said.</p>

<p>Tesla faces skepticism that it can show technological advances that would justify the expense of "general purpose" robots in factories, homes and elsewhere, according to robotics experts, investors and analysts interviewed by Reuters.</p>

<p>Tesla already employs hundreds of robots designed for specific jobs for production of its cars.</p>

<p>Humanoid robots have been in development for decades by Honda Motor Co and Hyundai Motor Co's Boston Dynamics unit. Like self-driving cars, the robots have trouble with unpredictable situations.</p>

<p>"Self-driving cars weren't really proved to be as easy as anyone thought. And it's the same way with humanoid robots to some extent," the lead of NASA's Dexterous Robotics Team, Shaun Azimi, told Reuters.</p>

<p>"If something unexpected happens, being flexible and robust to those kinds of changes is very difficult."</p>

<p>At an "Autonomy" event in 2019, Musk promised 1 million robotaxis by 2020 but has yet to deliver such a car.</p>

<p>Musk's robots may be able to demonstrate basic capabilities at the event, but it would be hard for them to impress public expectations of robots that are as capable as humans, experts say.</p>

<p>To succeed, Tesla will need to show robots doing multiple, unscripted actions, said Nancy Cooke, a professor in human systems engineering at Arizona State University. Such proof could provide a boost to Tesla stock, which is down 25% from its 2021 peak.</p>

<p>"If he just gets the robot to walk around, or he gets the robots to dance, that's already been done. That's not that impressive," she said.</p>

<p>Tesla did not respond to Reuters' request for comments, but Musk in the past proved skeptics wrong, jump-starting the electric car market and building a rocket company, SpaceX, although some product launches were behind schedule.<br />

<p>Tesla is on hiring spree for people to work on humanoid bi-pedal&nbsp;robots, with about 20 job postings on "Tesla Bot" including jobs for designing key&nbsp;robot&nbsp;parts like "actuators".</p>

<p>"The code you will write will at term run in millions of humanoid&nbsp;robots across the world, and will therefore be held to high quality standards," one of the job postings said.</p>

<p>Tesla has over 2 million vehicles on the road.</p>

<p>Jonathan Hurst, chief technology officer at Agility&nbsp;Robotics, a humanoid&nbsp;robot&nbsp;firm founded in 2015 said the technology "is right now starting to turn the corner."</p>

<p>"Certainly, an important measure of success is do they make money from it," he told Reuters, referring to Tesla's humanoid&nbsp;robot&nbsp;efforts.</p>

<p>Analysts see more pageant than product. "It's all part of distracting people and giving them the next shiny object to chase after," Guidehouse Insights analyst Sam Abuelsamid said.</p>

<p>During the 2018 production hell,&nbsp;Musk&nbsp;specifically noted the problems of the "fluff bot," an assembly&nbsp;robot&nbsp;that failed to perform simple tasks that human hands can do - picking up pieces of "fluff" and placing them on batteries.</p>

<p>He said the cost of having technicians maintain the complicated&nbsp;robot&nbsp;far exceeded that of hiring someone to do the assembly.</p>

<p>The fluff bot is "a funny example but drives home the point that autonomy often doesn't generalize well, and so handling soft fluffy material that isn't as predictable as a rigid part was causing a huge problem," Aaron Johnson, a mechanical engineering professor at Carnegie Mellon University, said.</p>

Can self-driving cars ever be truly autonomous? Experts say 'no'

<p>Rockstar Games executives may be scratching their heads after more than 90 videos of the gameplay of its under-development Grand Theft Auto 6 were&nbsp;leaked on myriad social media platforms on Sunday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reportedly, a user named 'teapotuberhacker' on GTAForums claimed that they were behind the leak which comes from a test build of GTA 6. The post, which has been deleted since was captioned as saying, "Here are 90 footage/clips from GTA 6. It's possible I could leak more data soon, GTA 5 and 6 source code and assets, GTA 6 testing build."</p>

<p>The authenticity of the videos can be gauged by the fact that Rockstar Studios is working round the clock to take down the gameplay videos on YouTube and other social media platforms.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In one of the leaked videos, a player-character named Lucia alongside her accomplice Jason, in true GTA style robs a waffle restaurant.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ad breaks on the streaming app typically appear before a video starts as well as during the video if the creator decides to do so. However, longer ads are usually skippable after a few seconds while smaller ads that last a couple of seconds are usually unskippable. Over the past month or so, users have noticed that they are getting longer unskippable ads and the advertisements on the platform, in general, have expanded greatly both in length and quantity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Reportedly, this is not happening with all users or even all the videos on YouTube but the longer breaks have become more common lately. The phenomenon made headlines when several users took Twitter and Reddit to voice their concerns about the uptick in the number and duration of advertisements on the streaming platform, with one user saying they saw 11 ads instead of 5.&nbsp;<br />

<p>A Chinese cyberespionage group named Bronze President, which also goes by the name Mustang Panda, has been using a malware named PlugX to target the computers of political leaders across the globe.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Secureworks Counter Threat Unit (CTU), a company that analyses threat data across the planet, observed a series of attacks in the month of July that used the LuhX malware. Government officials in Europe, West Asia, and South America were reportedly targeted.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to CTU, the footprint of the attack bore similarities to previous attacks by Bronze President. The Chinese espionage group imitated official diplomatic notices and lured the government officials.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Several characteristics of this campaign indicate that it was conducted by the likely Chinese government-sponsored Bronze President threat group, including the use of PlugX, file paths and naming schemes previously used by the threat group, the presence of shellcode in executable file headers, and politically themed decoy documents that align with regions where China has interests,” the CTU research team <a href="https://www.secureworks.com/blog/bronze-president-targets-government-officials">wrote </a>in a statement.</p>

<p>Explaining that the PlugX malware had capabilities beyond just information gathering, the CTU team further added.</p>

<p>"PlugX is modular malware that contacts a command and control (C2) server for tasking and can download additional plugins to enhance its capability beyond basic information gathering," it said.</p>

<p>It is pertinent to note that the malware usually arrived in the victim's computer, embedded within RAR archive files. Upon opening the file, the user is shown a Windows shortcut (LNK) file.</p>

<p>Once the user clicks on the LNK file, the Plux malware is loaded, decrypted and executed in the system. The group stated that recently a Turkish official was targeted using a similar modus-operandi.</p>

<p>The official received a notification letter, supposedly from the UK government, informing about the appointment of a new ambassador. However. the truth is there has been no change in the personnel. Opening the mail could have compromised the official.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The cybersecurity firm advised that countries and organisations that China has an interest in could be at the most risk of being targeted and thus they needed to be aware of the group's activities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Organisations in geographic regions of interest to China should closely monitor this group’s activities, especially organisations associated with or operating as government agencies,” read the statement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Ever since it was announced, people are curious about the Emergency SOS via satellite feature. As quoted by news agency Reuters, Bob O'Donnell, a technalysis researcher, said, "Well I think the biggest news for me was the release of the satellite service for iPhone 14. There's been rumors about this honestly for about a year and a half. And it wasn't clear whether they were going to actually do it."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"But from that opening video where they showed the satellite in the sky, I was like, okay, I'm pretty sure it's going to come today. And sure enough it did. It's not something that everybody needs," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"But I think it's a thing that everybody would like to have because you never know when you're going to get caught in a particular situation and knowing that you have that safety net to potentially get in contact with someone if you are god forbid stuck, it's a big deal," Bob added.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>What do we know about the Emergency SOS service?&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>The company said that its satellite SOS service will work with emergency responders and in some situations, the users will be able to use its FindMy app to share their location via satellite when they have no other connectivity.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When a user has to send an emergency message and she/he is out of range of WiFi or cellular, satellite connectivity can be used.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Although Apple stated that the&nbsp;satellite SOS service&nbsp;was designed for use in open spaces when the skies were&nbsp;clear. Hence, the performance may be impacted if there are trees or buildings that are nearby.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Apple selected Globalstar&nbsp;as its partner for the satellite SOS service feature.&nbsp;</p>
