<p>Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan admitted he was at war when he appealed for the timed out dismissal of Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews in the match on Monday. During the Sri Lankan innings of the match at the ongoing ODI World Cup, Mathews was adjudged timed out after he did not face a single ball during the two-minute window, as stipulated in tournament laws.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking at the post-match ceremony, Shakib spilled the beans on what prompted him to make the appeal, especially after no fielding captain had ever done it in international cricket's 146-year history.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"One of our fielders came to me and said if you appeal now, he'll be out. Then I appealed and the umpire asked me if I am serious and if I am&nbsp;going to take it back or not. I said no, it's in the rules. It's in the laws," said Shakib.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I don't know if it's right or wrong but I felt I was at war (grins). I had to take the decision to make my team win. If it's in the rules why not take those chances," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Shakib took a diplomatic route in explaining his decision, Mathews did not hold back.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It&nbsp;was disgraceful from Shakib Al Hasan and Bangladesh. If they want to play cricket like that, there is something wrong drastically. Just disgraceful. Up until&nbsp;today, I had a lot of respect for Shakib, but he lost all. We have video evidence, we will put it out later," said Mathews.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Sri Lanka captain Kusal Medis said he was disappointed that umpires did not take the right call during the situation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"It's very disappointing. When Angelo came into the crease, there was five seconds left. It was an equipment failure as he noticed the helmet strap had come off, the umpires should have intervened and logic should have prevailed. It is disappointing that umpires couldn't step in and make the right decision," said Mendis.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While Mendis said there were five seconds left on the clock, fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock, during the mid-innings cleared that&nbsp;Mathews arrived at the crease after the two-minute period had elapsed</p>

It was an equipment failure as he noticed the helmet strap had come off, the umpires should have intervened and logic should have prevailed. <p>Pakistan captain Babar Azam has already faced enough wrath for his approach and inability to convert his starts into match-winning performances in this ODI World Cup 2023. Although Pakistan remains in the race for the semis, Babar’s performance, despite several fifties, have put him under the radar. Former T20 World Cup winner Abdul Razzaq compared Babar with India skipper Rohit Sharma, saying the Pakistan captain lacks that class.</p>

<p>While Rohit is in the top five run-getters thus far, having hit two fifties and a hundred, Babar is not even in the top 15, despite crossing the fifty-run mark four times. <p>"I've got a good relationship with Ben, and I know for a fact he won't thank me for saying this, but I'm saying it because it's what is best for the England cricket team. It's common sense," Harmison added.</p>

<p>A day after Sri Lanka’s Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe dissolved the Sri Lankan Cricket Board, expelling everyone over charges of widespread corruption within the governing body, Sri Lanka’s Court of Appeal quashed Ranasinghe’s actions by restoring dismissed officials pending a full hearing.</p>

Upset over corrupt functioning for years, Ranasinghe sacked the entire board on Monday, appointing an interim committee headed by former CWC-winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga.</p>

<p>After restoring the expelled members, the board’s president, Shammi Silva, challenged Ranasinghe’s action. Per the board members, Silva will resume his role backed by the court’s orders that prevent the now-quashed interim committee from operating.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Arjuna expressed his strong desire to work on the Sri Lankan cricket board's image, which he described as ‘the most corrupt institution in the country.</p>

<p>"It wasn't an easy pitch today, you needed someone like Kohli to bat the situation. Not to forget Shreyas Iyer as well, creating that partnership for us and getting the runs on the board," said Sharma.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We knew we had the runs on the board, it was time to keep the ball in the right areas, which we did," he added.</p>

World Cup 2023: 'Needed someone like...', Captain Rohit Sharma highlights Kohli's role after India trounce SA

<p>Fourth umpire Adrian Holdstock has cleared the air regarding the timed out dismissal of Angelo Mathews which has birthed a new controversy across the cricketing landscape. Speaking to Ian Bishop during the mid-innings show,&nbsp;Holdstock said&nbsp;Mathews had arrived at the crease after the two minute period had elapsed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the World Cup match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Mathews was adjudged timed out and had to return to the pavilion after he did not face a ball within the two-minute period, as stipulated in the tournament laws.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"ICC World Cup playing conditions supersede the MCC laws of cricket.&nbsp;When it comes to timed&nbsp;out, at the fall of a wicket, or even retirement of a batter, the incoming batter&nbsp;has to be in position&nbsp;and ready to receive the ball within two minutes, or his other partner to receive the ball in two minutes," explained&nbsp;Holdstock.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A section of fans defended Mathews saying he had arrived at the crease within two minutes and that equipment malfunction should not be treated as a reason for the timed out dismissal. However, Holdstock refuted such claims.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We have certain protocols where the TV umpire at the fall of the wicket, monitors the two minutes. And he will then relay the message to the on-field umpires. And in the instance this afternoon, the batter wasn't ready to receive the ball within those&nbsp;two minutes, even before the strap became an issue for him," said the fourth umpire.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Yes, that's correct, the two&nbsp;minutes had already elapsed before he had received the next delivery," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"According to laws, the fielding captain initiated the appeal to Erasmus who was the stand-in umpire that he wants to appeal for timed out. Just after the strap came loose, the fielding captain&nbsp;appealed for timed out."</p>
