Although he hasn’t officially parted ways with the Pakistan Cricket League (PSL), his team - Peshawar Zalmi, thanked him for his exceptional service to this league and game over the years.</p>

<p>While addressing the nation upon getting picked as the new chief selector, Wahab, in a video recording uploaded on PCB’s official handles, said,&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The [PCB's] decision to involve former players in cricketing matters is commendable, and I am willing to work for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Heading a selection committee is a challenging task. We have a significant Australia tour coming up that is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle and a T20I series against New Zealand that will allow us to develop a formidable unit leading up to the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies in June next year,” Wahab said in a board statement.</p>

Though in that position, they were out of the World Cup, England had to win their remaining two matches against the Netherlands and Pakistan to stay alive in the 2025 Champions Trophy qualification race.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Today, I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all formats. It's a difficult decision but I feel it is a right time for this call," wrote Babar on X, formerly known as Twitter.</p>

<p>“I want to express my sincere thanks to the Pakistan Cricket Board for entrusting me with this significant responsibility,” Babar added.</p>

<p>In the farewell note, Babar also&nbsp;recalled the first time he was asked by the PCB to don the captain's hat nearly four years ago.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“I vividly remember the moment when I received the call from PCB to lead Pakistan in 2019. Over the past four years, I’ve experienced many highs and lows on and off the field but I wholeheartedly and passionately aimed to maintain Pakistan’s pride and respect in the cricket world.”</p>
