Kohli will turn 35 during the forthcoming World Cup. Not much has been revealed by Kohli in terms of his future in international cricket. However, AB de Villiers -- South Africa and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) legend -- feels it might be a good time for Kohli to call it quits from the 50-over format if India win the CWC 2023 edition at home.&nbsp;

Speaking on his YouTube channel, De Villiers said, "I know he loves travelling to South Africa (for the 2027 World Cup), but it's very difficult to say. It is a long time away. Let's focus on this one first, I think that's what Virat Kohli would tell you. I think if they win this World Cup, it might not be a bad time to say, 'Thank you very much. I am maybe just going to play Test cricket for the next few years and a little bit of IPL, enjoy the last bit of my career, have enough family time, and say goodbye to everyone'."

For a good player, accumulating runs in ODIs is comparatively easy, as bowlers don't always try to take a wicket. Tendulkar and Kohli are special because they also have a lot of Test hundreds. On Tuesday (September 12), Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma created history by becoming the fastest to 5,000 ODI runs during the Super Four clash between India and Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo. While Kohli and Rohit didn't add a lot of runs for the second wicket, after Shubman Gill's departure (19), the duo attained a historic feat of scoring more than 5,000 ODI runs together in just 86 innings.&nbsp;

Over the years, Kohli and Rohit have formed a formidable pair for India, especially in ODIs.&nbsp;It is to be noted that their partnership boasts an impressive average of 62.47, including 18 century and as many as 15 half-century partnerships. Thus, owing to their superior record, they are&nbsp;the eighth-best pair in the history of ODI cricket.

Before Rohit-Kohli,&nbsp;West Indies legends Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes were the quickest pair to reach 5,000 ODI runs (in 97 innings). The list is followed by&nbsp;the Aussie pair of Matthew Hayden/Adam Gilchrist (104), and Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka (105).

Talking about the ongoing India-Sri Lanka Asia Cup tie, Rohit-led Men in Blue won the toss and opted to bat first at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Rohit laid the foundation with a 48-ball 53 whereas Kohli fell for a 12-ball 3 as India are aiming for a competitive total versus the hosts.

The modern master, on his way to his century, also became the fastest to 13,000 ODI runs, beating Sachin Tendulkar to the mark. He also equalled a unique feat in the 50-over&nbsp;game which previously had only been achieved by former South African batter Hashim Amla.

As soon as Kohli scored his century, he became only the second batsman in the world to hit four consecutive hundreds on a single venue which is R. Premadasa in Colombo in his case. Amla had scored four consecutive centuries in Centurion between 2015 and 2017.&nbsp;

Kohli scored 122 not out in the September 11 clash in Colombo and had scored 128*(119), 131(96) and 110*(116) in his previous three ODI outings. Amla, meanwhile, had scored 133, 124, 127, and 157 to become the first player ever to score four consecutive 100s at the same venue.

Kohli now has 13,024 runs in ODI and he has reached them in just 267 innings while Tendulkar, who previously held the record, had breached the 13K mark in 321 innings. Kohli is also only the fifth batter to reach the milestone behind Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara and Sanath Jayasuriya.

The 34-year-old is also two centuries behind Sachin's record of 49 tons in ODIs. Overall, Sachin has 100 international tons and Kohli is 23 short of equalling them. While Tendulkar scored 51 tons in Tests and 49 in ODIs, Kohli has 29 in Tests, 47 in ODIs and one in T20Is as well.

Thanks to Kohli's masterclass and KL Rahul's 111 not out, India posted a mammoth total of 356 runs in their 50 overs. Pakistan were never in the chase of the target as they bundled out for a paltry 128 runs, thanks to Kuldeep Yadav's five-for.

Playing for the first time since early May, plenty of question marks were raised on Rahul’s fitness as he missed the West Indies and Ireland tour in July and August. His participation in the Asia Cup was also a big talking point, but all those questions were answered on Monday at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo as he smashed his sixth ODI ton for the national side. Coming into bat in the 18th over, Rahul had plenty of critics to answer while his fitness issue was in question.

The former India vice-captain’s innings consisted of 12 fours and two sixes and India’s batting class excelled despite rainy conditions in the island nation. Rahul scored at a strike rate of more than 100 and showed aggression wherever required. Along with Virat, he stitched a 233-run stand for the third wicket as India dominated the Pakistan batting.

Though Afridi went for runs despite getting little swing, Shah was on point, keeping it tight from one end.

India’s opening pair, which in the previous outing, got reduced to 66 for four at one stage after winning the toss, stitched a 121-run stand. Both Gill and Rohit scored respective fifties but lost wickets in quick intervals.

Rain interrupted play in Colombo, with the scorecard reading 147 for two in 24.1 overs. Virat Kohli and returning KL Rahul are at the crease, batting at eight and 17, respectively.
