<p>Virat Kohli hit the winning six as India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets to get the fourth consecutive win in the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 19 in Pune. With the six, Kohli also completed his 48th ODI ton - one short of former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's world record of 49 ODI tons. Kohli, however, wasn't too sure about getting 100 and not taking singles to win the match as India needed just two runs with him batting on 97.</p>

<p>Kohli's partner in the middle, KL Rahul, however, persuaded him to to go for the century. "He [Kohli] was confused, he said it will not look too nice, not to take the single, it's still a World Cup, and it's still a big stage. 'I don't want to look like I am just trying to get the milestone'," Rahul told Star Sports after the match.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kohli eventually decided to go for the hundred and lofted Nasum Ahmed over mid-on for the match-winning shot in the 42nd over which also completed his century. India had a blockbuster outing during their ODI World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan. While India skipper Rohit Sharma broke several records with his 131-run innings off 84 balls, Virat Kohli also broke the record for most runs in World Cups (ODI and T20 combined). <p>India’s Hardik Pandya suffered a horrific-looking injury while attempting to stop the ball. He was taken to the hospital for the scans immediately. With Bangladesh going strong, ace-spinner Kuldeep Yadav broke the partnership by trapping in front of the wickets on 51.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India romped past Bangladesh in match 17 of the CWC 2023 edition on Thursday (Oct 19) at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Being asked to bowl first, Rohit Sharma &amp; Co. rode on Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah's two-fers each to restrict Bangladesh for 256 for 8 in their full quota of overs. <p>Towards the end of the run-chase, Kohli was on the verge of slamming his 48th hundred. He needed another three runs but India were in search of two more to complete the match when spinner&nbsp;Nasum Ahmed bowled one down the leg side. While it seemed a wide, umpire Richard Kettleborough didn't signal a wide. <p>Given Kohli had a wide-open stance to Nasum,&nbsp;this might have prompted Kettleborough to make a calculative judgment&nbsp;that the delivery could have connected with him had he not executed his characteristic lateral movement in the crease. Thus, the Englishman opted against calling the delivery a wide.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the Bangladesh win, India will now gear up to face New Zealand in Dharamsala on Sunday. Both sides are unbeaten so far with eight points each. NZ are at the top, followed by India, due to a superior Net Run Rate (NRR).</p>

The Indian physio immediately rushed to the field and offered some treatment to the all-rounder. Pandya, however, wasn't able to continue and left the field.</p>

ODI World Cup: Lucky to get Kohli out 5 times, he is the best batter, says Shakib ahead of Ind vs Ban tie

<p>Former Australia skipper and two-time ODI World Cup winner Ricky Ponting has lauded India skipper Rohit Sharma for his 'laid back' attitude and ability to cope with pressure. Ponting's comments come after India won their first three games in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023, including wins against Australia and Afghanistan.</p>

<p>"He's very laid back, Rohit. Very laid back with everything he does,” Ponting told the ICC.</p>

<p>"You can even see that by the way that he plays. He's a pretty laconic sort of batsman as well, and that's the way he is both on and off the field," added the former Australia skipper.</p>

<p>Talking about the pressure, Ponting opined that the big tournament will get to India but Rohit will be able to cope with that. He also said that Rohit is more equipped to deal with pressure than someone like Virat (Kohli).</p>

<p>The former Australia skipper also said that India is the&nbsp;team to beat in this World Cup and have all their bases covered.</p>

<p>"I said from the start that I think they're going to be the team to beat. They've got a very talented team,” Ponting said.</p>

<p>India won their second ODI World Cup 2023 match against Afghanistan in an emphatic manner but it was Virat Kohli and Naveen ul Haq hugging each other during the match that stole the limelight from Rohit Sharma's blistering hundred. Kohli, who plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Naveen, a Lucknow Super Giants player, had engaged in a heated battle during an IPL 2023 match in Lucknow earlier this year.</p>

<p>There had been few words exchanged between LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir and Kohli as well after the Naveen-Kohli argument.</p>

<p>India currently stand second on the points table behind New Zealand on the net run-rate and next play Pakistan on October 14 in Ahmedabad. Pakistan also have same points as India and New Zealand after two games but are third on the point-table on net run rate.</p>

<h2><strong>KOHLI AND RAHUL'S CANDID CHAT</strong></h2>

<p>In their conversation, Kohli recalled the stunning 233-run third-wicket stand with Rahul in India's Super Four clash versus Pakistan in the Asia Cup but rated their recent stand 'bit more special.'</p>

<p>Kohli started by saying, "Talking about the special partnership that I and KL had, we had one in the Asia Cup as well but this was a bit more special." He then asked Rahul, "How does it feel, how is the body feeling firstly."</p>

<p>Rahul replied, "Tired. I won't lie, you know how it was the only chat after I think 50 or 70 runs of the partnership was let's conserve energy. Let's not run the twos but once you hit it in the gap then I guess instincts take over and we end up running. It was a tough day but it could get our World Cup journey started with a good victory."</p>

<p>Kohli recalled India's top-order failure in Chennai and said, "I know the situation was not ideal when you came in, you were all over the place you were still padding up while walking in. The first thing I told you was that it was a quick turnaround. It was quite bizarre to be honest the start was quite bizarre." He then asked his partner, "What was your feeling when you were walking in?"</p>

<p>Rahul was quick to respond, "I never expected it, you do lose a couple of quick wickets sometimes when the ball is doing something but not like that it still takes 4-5 overs. It doesn't all happen in 1.5 overs or 2 overs time. I just came and sat, I just had a shower, the minute I sat down Ishan got out. I had to rush back to get taped and started wearing my pad."</p>

<p>In India's heartbreaking CWC '19 semi-final loss versus New Zealand, chasing 240, the then Kohli-led Indian team were 5 for 3 and struggled to get past the finish line,&nbsp;losing by 18 runs. <p>“I was (nervous), you don't want to start your innings like that, credit to the Aussie's bowlers as they bowled in good areas but some loose shots as well, when you have that kind of target you want to score as much as possible in the powerplay, but credit to Virat and KL on how they went about the chase.</p>

<p>“That is going to be the challenge for us as a team, moving to different conditions and adapting, whoever suits the conditions will have to come and do the job. Chennai never disappoints, they love their cricket, and for them to sit in that heat and come out and cheer for the team says a lot,” Rohit said in the post-match interview.</p>

<p>Tasked to chase 200, the pair of Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc crushed India to 2/3, revisiting memories from the 2019 World Cup semifinal loss to New Zealand. ODI World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma reflects on India's poor start despite Kohli, Rahul heroics, 'I was nervous'

<p>Overcoming a jittery start, India romped to a comfortable six-wicket victory over Australia in their opening&nbsp;World Cup match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. KL Rahul was adjudged Player of the Match for his formidable 97-run innings that was laced with eight boundaries and two maximums.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking at the post-match ceremony, KL Rahul revealed he and Virat Kohli decided to pursue the match like Test cricket after coming in to bat when the scoreboard wore a sorry look.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Quite honestly not a lot of conversation, I thought I’d get a good shower and get a break. I was just trying to get my breath back. Virat said there's a bit of help in this wicket, so we have to play proper shots and think like we're in Test cricket for a little time. There was a bit of help for the pacers with the new ball, and then the spinners also," said Rahul.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Quizzed about the nature of the pitch which was on the slower side, Rahul said dew played a part during the second innings.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I think it remained the same for most part of the game. There was a bit of help for the fast bowlers in the start and the spinners came in. I think dew played a part in the end. The ball did come on a little better but the wicket was still two-paced. It was a good cricket wicket and that's what you get in the southern parts of India."</p>

<p>Notably, Rahul and Kohli stitched a 165-run partnership in 215 balls which batted away the Australian side from competition. While Kohli perished on 85, just before the finish line, Rahul carried his bat through and struck the winning runs to kickstart India's World Cup campaign.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"I hit it too well. I was just calculating how I could get to a hundred. Hopefully, some other time I can get the hundred," said Rahul, referring to the majestic six that secured the win.&nbsp;</p>

"Quite honestly not a lot of conversation, I thought I’d get a good shower and get a break. I was just trying to get my breath back. Quizzed about the nature of the pitch which was on the slower side, Rahul said dew played a part during the second innings. "I think it remained the same for most part of the game. There was a bit of help for the fast bowlers in the start and the spinners came in. I think dew played a part in the end. The ball did come on a little better but the wicket was still two-paced. It was a good cricket wicket and that's what you get in the southern parts of India." Notably, Rahul and Kohli stitched a 165-run partnership in 215 balls which batted away the Australian side from competition. While Kohli perished on 85, just before the finish line, Rahul carried his bat through and struck the winning runs to kickstart India's World Cup campaign. "I hit it too well. I was just calculating how I could get to a hundred. Hopefully, some other time I can get the hundred," said Rahul, referring to the majestic six that secured the win.
